member 30687
The Nov. issue of downbeat magazine [not yet (10/12/03) up on their website www.downbeat.com ] has some articles of potential interest. There's a piece giving general profiles of 13 "young up & coming" jazz drummers (if you accept that ages 22~39 describes young!). This piece might give you some idea of what others are up to & some indirect ideas on self-promotion. More interesting is an interview with Jack DeJohnette. He not only discusses his history, current projects and some specific musical issues such as sharing space in ensemble playing and, particularly, cymbals but provides some brief but sage advice on outlook and learning. Happy reading!
