BassGuy
Just curious how long I should plan on the drummer's tuning his kit when we set up for recording a new song.
Alan Dalton
Less time than he takes, by the sound of it...
Dwarf
That depends a lot on the drummer. Some are really good at tuning and will get a good sound fast. Some are good at tuning and are anal retentive so they take forever. Some suck at tuning, take forever and still get a bad sound. If they're good their kits will probably already be reasonably tuned when they get there, just requiring a few tweaks. I use a drum torque and can completely change the tuning of my snare, 2 rack toms and a floor tom, top and bottom heads, in 15 minutes or so. Expect about half an hour or so to be safe. And if they plan on putting on new heads request that they do that before they get to the studio. Tell them that this will give the heads a chance to stretch and seat properly on the drums. It's the truth and you will hopefully avoid paying the studio hourly rate for nothing. -- Rob I have the mind of a criminal genius.....I keep it in the freezer next to mother. BassGuy
Thanks Dwarf! Alan, I'm not bothered by the time he takes now. Just wanted a comparison.
