felix stein
LOL WHO CARES? There's a few different ways. I always admired great heel toe players but one can't go wrong with the ol' ball of foot. My feet are so genetically distorted that I have a hard time with "proper" technique. But we get by. felix's band
Jazzman
Hi jscoin, most of the time I leave the heel on the pedal and work the hat with the ball of my foot, sometimes I've had the ball of my foot lay on the pedal, heel off and cycle the hat. The same would go for the bass drum. Do what doesn't tire you out or do whatever feels comfortible to you. I've always practiced the hard way to build up my muscles, then play the easier way to withstand time. I used to practice for 10 hours on saturdays every weekend when I was gigging, sometimes the same day. My 2 cents worth.......... Jazzman
DrummerCafe
In my opinion, whatever you want to do is okay AS LONG AS YOUR FOOT STAYS IN CONTACT WITH THE PEDAL. Lift the heel, lift the toe, rock back-and-forth (Heel/Toe), lift the entire leg and stomp the pedal ... it doesn't matter ... but some part of your foot has GOT to remain in contact with the pedal. If either your heel, toe or ball of your foot doesn't stay in contact with the pedal, you're looking for trouble ... such as rattling pedal noise, losing your balance, etc. Drummer Cafe - community drum & percussion forum
