felix stein Posted December 17, 2001 Share Posted December 17, 2001 Went to shytown this past weekend and my wife's friend there told us about a hot jazz club up on the north side. So we took a train in the middle of the afternoon up to this club to find it before the evening jam (9:00 pm). Get there, walk in, grab a couple beers and we notice there is a band there at 2 in the afternoon, all set up, diddling here and there. I look closer...I see a 2000 dollar equitek mic, ADAT M20's a few earthworks mics...I'm thinking "am I Jed Clampett or are these guys recording?" Find out from the bartender that this quartet is cutting a cd right now! The chicago tribune comes in, takes a few pic...everyone is quiet...a little duet between the piano player and vaughn...this 60 something chicago staple jazz sax player starts blowing...unbelievable...chills going in and thru me the whole time. Great drummer- he played extremely authentic on all the faster stuff, great stick and brush player...we were there almost two hours.
