rlhubley
Just wanted to share some 2-week old news I was just informed of. Maggie Mae's(a club on Austin's famous 6th St) is considering implementing a "pay to play" rule. It would consist of a $500 deposit that would be returned ONLY if the band draws enough people. I don't know what has come of it since the story was printed. I would like to know how my fellow drummers feel about this.
felix stein
It's the reason I'm in Cleveland and not in LA. Makes no sense to me whatsoever...and bands are so dumb they will play there anyways. It would be great if they all could get together and boycott clubs that did that. Like I have enough time to sell 500 tickets...that's horse manure. felix's band
rlhubley
well, luckily the local Union(HEY HEY, the union DID do something, in fact they DID look out for the musicians) helped and this has been resolved. This could have really set a BAD precedent for the other clubs in the "live music capital of the world" My suggestion, boycott(and encourage others to as well) any bar, club, or venue that subscribes to the 'pay to play' policy. sidereal
I agree with the above completely. don't take no shit! Austin...... can you say "saturated music scene"? adding to the problem is that the economy is in dire straights right now. clubs are probably feeling the pinch. But that's an inexcusable move. Looks like bad press and word of mouth made them change their tune. Just for the record.
