DJ,

That Mapex job sounds like it was great. how does one get into a position like that? I would like to have more opportunties for income through drum-related jobs. I.E., working for a manufacturer, writing, magazine work, website work, etc. I have a prettry good knowledge of drumming and drums and percussion in general. I have studied at a Univ. (music ed) for 2 full years, and one year at M.I. in L.A. Any suggestions on how to do that?

Well, I'll reply http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Most musicians it seems have some talent outside performing. The trick to making a living is to work in the industry in a more "stable" situation while also playing drums. At least this is what I do. I'm a freelance writer and I write for magazines, websites, etc. (Just got off the phone with Santana producer K.C. Porter) I have a college degree in journalism, so it was a natural thing for me. Being on contract, I have the freedom to work as much as I want and still have time to gig a great deal.

If you're a Type A personality you can get into sales for any company. If you have a background in graphics, writing, marketing, you can get your foot in the door of many music companies who like the fact that you're a musician. For example, if you play drums, go hit DW up for a job! The trick is to convince them that you have something to offer them (i.e. don't go saying "please, can I, can I?")

btw, one of the best benefits of working for a company is the discounts you get on gear. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif)

Just for the record.
