Opinions on these daw's?

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in buying a pre-configured DAW, and have narrowed it down to these two places. Does anyone have any experience with either place, or recommend another? 1.Central Computers http://www.centralcomputer.com/PriceList/ProAudio/Systems.htm 2.Advanced Design http://www.advanceddesignky.com/system2.cfm?type=workstation Thanks :)
I have no homepage.

My understanding is that Sweetwater does really good work, although they are slightly more expensive. It's apparently thorough. I had good luck with www.digitalwave.com I usually pass up threads asking questions about DAWs because I don't know very much about them, but this is something I do know a little about!

I was just thinking how cool it would be if Apple preconfigured their new machines with the Logic software they just bought, of which they intend to drop the PC version. Call it an applelog, applog, applogic, logapple. Since I understand OSX doesn't support much high end music yet, this could be a coup or crapshoot. Last night I met a guy who has a home studio in Kansas City. He's used PC's with Logic for some time and has a lot of material from different artists. He told me that he intends to get a G4 on his next upgrade, as he hopes that the files will transfer and control mechanisms will follow. If that worked sufficiently well, could Apple have done what Microsoft has been doing from another direction and make something desireable that can only be had on its platform. Consumer Reports just did an issue on new computers and home networking. There were a bunch of PC's and one Apple iMac in the desktop comparisons, and for this independent test, the iMac scored really well. The magazine also surveys customer support and reliability. Apple was at or near the top in all those catagories. Just imagine if they had that support for music software. I know, that involves expense that a small niche market might not support. I'd consider Logic for my next upgrade after going to a company demonstration at a local music store. Their support twenty miles away would be a big plus in my consideration. I presently use Cubase just enough to be dangerous. It may be that the music optimized Macs could take other forms. How about a power mac with XLR inputs, good mic pre's and a 1/4" guitar jack? Or we could make guitar cords USB...
