My MexiGeddy project bass!

I love the Geddy Lee, but I wanted it in a 3 tone sunburst finish. So....

I bought a beautiful, 3 tone sunburst, 4 string Fender Standard (MIM) Jazz bass at my local White's Music store.

Then I went online and ordered....

1. Leo Quan Badass II bridge

2. Fender US Original ('62) Jazz Bass pickups

3. Tortoise shell Jazz bass pickguard

And I went back into White's Music and bought a set of DR Hi-Beam strings as recommended by many on this forum for long life and great sound.

The bridge and pickguard have arrived, and I'm just waiting for the pickups. Then my MexiGeddy shall arise.

What you're doing sounds like a good idea to me.

And then you can start building a new project bass out of the parts you took off the first bass.

It's got a rosewood fingerboard.

Hmmm...another project bass... :) Maybe buy a real Geddy Lee and convert it into a Mexican standard... :D

Cool project!

Nope, it's alder with a rosewood fingerboard.

Thanks for the affirmation! :thu:

The neck on Geddy Lee's bass has been shaved down to the 60's era Jazz neck dimensions.

Okay, now I get it. But the only neck I'll be shaving is the one under my chin. :)

The GL has an alder body, as well, so there you go. It also has a maple 'board, of course, but if you prefer rosewood, then so much the better! :thu:

Cool idea. And it's basically how the GL bass came to be anyway: someone got a decent but inexpensive bass (he got his from a pawn shop, I believe) & made it up a bit, until it was how he wanted it. The formula still works!

Still waiting for those Fender US Original Jazz Bass pickups. I ordered them from Music123.com on July 30 and thought they'd be here by now! I emailed them but haven't gotten a response...

Finally! Got the Fender US Original Jazz Bass pickups. They arrived yesterday after I ordered them on July 30. I brought the bass, bridge, pickguard, strings, and pickups to my local instrument repair shop, and am hoping it'll be done by Saturday.

Turns out the pickguard I ordered on eBay doesn't fit right! But the technician working on my bass happened to have a different one that DID fit and that I also liked better anyway. So I'm out the $20 something I spent on the first pickguard, but ... the bass is done! :D I'm really happy with it. If I only had a digital camera I'd post pictures of it. Looks like the Reggie Hamilton bass but without the Precision neck pickup. '62 U.S. pickups, sunburst finish, tortoise shell pickguard, Badass II bridge, DR HiBeams strings ... I'm loving it!

And now begins the rise of MexiGeddy...
