andertone
One of the greats just got a year older (1944) All the best to Jack Casady, who with his association with some great luthiers and technicians made a major impact on bass tone and technique. I still remember his Versatone/Alembic stacks with Macintosh amps rumbling Winterland so hard I thought it was going to be levitated!!! Time to flood his web page with B-day wishes! Fred TBP
Happy Birthday Jack! Saw you at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ about a decade ago, you had a Modulus Graphite P- bass clone (surprised you didn't travel with your Alembic and this was before your Epiphone model came out) through either Ampeg (my mind wanders a lot these days) and I think your band was called SVT. You were still young and fiery then, but what also impressed me was the tightness of the band and quality of the musicians, which I attribute to you as bandleader. Not to say your performances with Hot Tuna were to be ignored. I've spent years looking for photos of you with your Flying V bass, haven't found a one. BTW, Karen keeps wondering if you'll ever pay a visit to her open mike night, but she's too nice a person to ask you directly. She still has the autographed poster you and Jorma signed and I'm sure she'd be spellbound if you showed up unannounced. Her bass playing is getting much better and her singing is still on the money. See you next time you're in Jersey!

Fred, there's a pic of Jack playing his Flying V bass in Jim Roberts' book, 'How the Fender Bass Changed the World.' Great read, btw.
