Just ordered a Fender Japan Ishibashi JB62-77FL, fretless with is basically an alder Jazz bass in sunburst with no pickguard and a rosewood lined neck a la Jaco style, ohh and it has US pickups. anyone here seen, or tried this one ? seems very good value, in any case I'll soon find out ! link here...in japanese http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/guitar/fender-j/jb6277fl.htm Ernie If in doubt leave it Out ! BenLoy
Very cool! Is its fingerboard coated with some kind of resin to protect the fingerboard from roundwound strings? Good luck getting "Teen Town" or "Havona" up to speed on that!

wraub
"Basically an alder Jazz bass in sunburst with no pickguard and a rosewood lined neck" Is exactly my favorite look for a Jazz bass. Not that it's my favorite looking Jazz, understand, just that that is my favorite look for a Jazz bass to have. Man, I'm deep. Congrats on the bass! Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
69tele
Mr.Phil. 1 US Dollar = 110 Japanese Yen. you can check the rate or covert amounts below http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/m3?u Benloy: I don't think so but I'm planning to use flatwounds. I've heard La Bella Deep Talkin are good. yeah it sure looks cool without the pickguard. I'm think of fitting chrome p-bass knows like Jacos and maybe a clear pickguard. Does anyone know if Jacos knobs were flat or domed ? Thanks Ernie my other bass - http://www.eazi-k.com/guitar/mm/ If in doubt leave it Out ! BenLoy
69 Tele: Go for the LaBella flatwounds if you want, but if you want to sound like Jaco, you will fail if you use flatwounds. Jaco got his fretless sound using stainless steel roundwounds. Just my 2c.
jeremy c
Did you order it directly through the Japanese web site? I've wondered about doing that since they have models in Japan that don't get imported into the US. I've also wondered if you have to pay duties or tariffs if you buy it from another country. wraub
Good call, JC. I had wondered that as well. Details, tele? Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
BigKahuna855
i believe jaco had flat knobs, not domed "I'm thinkin' we should let bump answer this one... 69tele
thanks for the knob and string info ! as for the order, yes I have ordered it straight from Japan, from the Ishibashi webshop. The website however is in Japanese so I mostly found out the details via email and searching the net. The salesman there Koichi was very prompt and efficient and the prices are excellent. As for taxes and duties these vary from country to country as the are levied in your country not the one the item comes from. I'm in Europe and officially we have to pay 12% of the value of the goods. I beleive however, and I'n not sure on this that from Japan > USA there is no tax. I am sure however that the store can confirm or deny this. Also take into account these domestic models are better than the ones exported to the USA, as for example my bass is alder and not basswood and has USA pickups. Ernie If in doubt leave it Out ! Fender Japan domestic models are superior to the export models. I guess it's cheaper than importing Fender USA models to Japan. And I thought it worked the other way around. No wonder we're at a trade imbalance! (and this smiley-guy look a little Asian to me as well. Coincidence? Hmmm... )
69tele
thats right for example the Jaguars and Jazzmasters sold in UK and USA are basswood whilst the Japan Domestic market are alder. If in doubt leave it Out !

69tele
woooohooo !! my bass just arrived. she's a beauty. Came in a massive box with miles of bubble wrap and well packed. The Fender Japan case I ordered extra is similiar to the Fender one with a black interior and the Fender amp logo but its obviously not made by G&G. Also has form moulded wedges on the side of the body. The finish is stunning not as glossy as my other MIJ bass a Marcus Miller Sig., and the neck has a vintage yellow tint and the round retainer as its a '62. I've just tuned her up (in my office using an online java piano LOL) and she sounds great. and further I have no problem finding my way round thanks to the fretlines. they've also included a goodie bag with the paperwork etc, a cord, and to my suprise a red tort pickguard !! will try and post some pics later. full review coming soon. DONUT
Nice job! There is a guy on ebay that calls himself Guitar Gai that sells some beautiful Japan Fenders and its so tempting that I talk to myself out loud sometimes. Someday. The white/black '70 reissue Pbass really gets me.
