Supporting Jaco

73 P Bass

Recommended Posts

I was listening to a live Jaco CD. I was amazed at how well he took up the support role on the other players songs. He was locked in like Alcatraz!

Just another reason he was so great.

Which album was it???

Maybe this should be a new board altogether, but...

WHAT IS EVERYONE'S FAVORITE JACO ALBUM?

Live in NYC Vol 3 is mine -- power trio setup with Kenny Dennard and Hiram Bullock... jaw dropping, eye opening religious experience for me. "Dear Prudence" is the perfect song.

I actually just picked up Vol 3 today for a steal at $7.99 and haven't listened yet but I have Vol 2. and 4 which are both amazing.

Have you all seen the new release "Portrait of Jaco, the early years. http://www.portraitofjaco.com/

1)Jaco

2) Tie - Heavy Weather and 8:30 - 8:30 was the first Jaco/WR album I bought and the only one I owned for years, it's like a comfortable pair of shoes. I love the energy on this album and the versions of "A Remark You Made", "Birdland", "Black Market" and of course "Teen Town" and "Slang" still blow me away! (I used to drive my mom nuts with this album!..parents just don't understand... :D )

3)Bright Size Life

Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly what it is - B. Banzai

Life is what happens while you are busy playing in bands.

I believe it was live from NYC vol. 5. Mike Stern plays on it.

My favorite is Heavy Weather though.

The first two are in my all-time top 5 faves. I always much prefered Jaco as sideman/muse to Jaco as leader.

Steve

I have to whole heartidly agree with Mr. Lawson

Same for me. I love "Heavy Weather" and the 1st solo CD, but hearing him in context with a big band is special.

...moved here (S.FLA) just too late to see the real thing...damn.

Right on man :thu: I just got this a couple days ago. So its too new to tell, but I just might like it the best of all the stuff with Joni.

indeed you do - Mingus has got some great moments, but is largely unfinished. A very cool selection of musical sketches though.

Hejira, on the other hand, is one of the greatest sensory experiences ever. As Mo Foster once said, I envy anyone who hasn't heard it, cos they still that first time experience to come... :)
