Tattoo -- and, no, we ain't talkin' 'bout "Fantasy Island"

Okay, I'm curious. Who's got a tattoo, or two, or six, or full body art...or none at all?

If you really like your tattoo, please describe it or post a picture.

I have one, and often think about getting another. It's a yin-yang on my hip. Basic. Got it in college. I was in Newport RI, stone-cold sober, and have never regretted it.

Peace.

Yeah, I have some tattoos. Six, to be exact. Five on my right arm in color, one on my left in black.

They're all turtles. If I could find my digi camera, I'd post pics.

Yes, I was totally sober when I got them, and no... I don't regret them a bit. I'd like to get a few more when I get more cash.

BTW, I bought our singer, Bill, his tattoo when we were on Queen St. Toronto once... We had a few hours to kill before a show, and I had extra bucks. Bill had the Korean characters for "Cottonmouth" in his wallet, so I snagged them and went into a shop and asked what it would cost to slap that on him in black. I think it was $100 Canadian... He was kinda freaked, but he sat like a pro, and his ink still looks fresh today.

I took Da Finga for his first ink about six years ago, and now he gets tattoos every time we tour. Consequently, he's always bleeding throughout every tour. It's funny. He has a few great pieces.

No tattoos on this bugger's skin, ain't my thing, but I don't have anything against them on others.

I wonder if there is a correlation between tattoos on one's body and special inlays on one's bass?

I've got a tie-dye colored Yin Yang on my bicep (or what passes for a bicep)-red, orange, yellow on one side and violet, blue, green on the other.

I've been dieting for two years...when I reach my target weight, I am going to get a back piece that covers both shoulder blades and the left bicep. My wife said she's going to call it the midlife crisis warning flag.

I really like tattoos, but I'd rather see bad jailhouse ink or a cheezy nude woman than see a Bart Simpson or Calvin and Hobbes on someone's arm.

"For instance" is not proof.

My boss has that. Except its just Hobbes. What a funny tiger.

I was thinking of getting one eventually, except I wouldn't know what to get. I dont want it to be cheesy and something that everyone has, like barbed wire, or some tribal type design.

Funny, that. I used to work part time in a parlor on Hotel Street in Honolulu, back when I was in the service.

Wouldn't believe how many people have a problem with getting ink from one who has no ink themselves.

I can tell you how to make your very own tattoo gun with a Bic "Stic" pen, a sewing needle, solder, a paper clip, a fingernail file, 2 "D" cells, electrical tape and the motor from a Sony Walkman. And no, I've never been in prison.

As of right now I have no tattoos. But I'm entering my early mid life crisis years so it's either tattoos, a motocycle or both.

Since tattoos are cheaper, I'll probably go that route.

Unfortunately it's been a really slow year, so even tattoos are a little pricey for me.

But when I have the cash I'll start with an Ace of Spades (born to lose / live to win), and go from there. :thu:

5 total, for now.

3 of them will be integrated into a full sock (knee to ankle) on my left leg. I only have pics of one at the time... my left calf:

That one took about 8 hours total.

I've since added another piece about the same size on the front side of that leg (about 3 hours away from completion), now I just need to tie the two together.

...simply stating.

No tatoos or piercings, don't even wear jewelry except for a wedding ring (necessaity) and watch (functional). I'm pretty much all natural.

But if I ever change my mind and decided to get a tatoo, I decided a long time ago that my first one would HAVE to be Herve Villachez. :P

I don't have one. If I could limit myself to a couple (yea right), then of course:

on my left arm

and a likeness of this on my right:

One guy and one girl. :) I'd have them high enough that they would be well hidden with a short sleeve, medium size dress shirt.

I don't care for the midget, either. ;)

Haha, I hope you don't mean the fine lady on my avatar. She's taller than I am! :P
Nah, I was referring to the midget "Tattoo" on Fantasy Island.

I don't get the tattoo thing. I taught music in Folsom Prison among others for 10 years or so. I most often associate them with prisoners. It's transitioned from being a "low life" body art thing to being an artsy low life body art thing.

Seeing all those old, old tattoos that are worn, withered and grey on old time prisoners and the like, where you can barely make out what they were suppose to be is enough to keep me away from the needle. Let alone other things.

Prison tattoo artists use cassette players (there are almost no recorders in California prisons. It's against the law) and stripped down ball point pens to do tatoos. I forget what they use for the needle. This too is against the law, although it's rarely enforced. Believe it or not prison tattooing considered defacing of state property. The property being those gentlemen who are wards of the state. Can you believe that? Human beings as property. State property no less. Almost modern slavery.

But you know to each his or her own. It matters not to me what other people do. But for me it's kind of yeech!

All the best,

Henry Robinett
