martianrebel
From my previous post, you can see that I am suffering through a bout of GAS.. One of the potential additions to the martianrebel instrument collection is a short scale Gretsch bass. What's the deal with these strange animals? Does anyone out there play one regularly? Are there any things that I should be aware of if I buy a short scale bass? Any weird stuff?? -(m)- -{m}- What's these knobs for? http://www.martianrebel.com
zeronyne
Dude, you should definitely try using the search command. In THIS THREAD , GreenMicroDot discusses both sides of the short scale issue in posts 5 and 8. "For instance" is not proof.
GreggTL
FYI Paul McCartney-- Hofner 'violin' bass from first couple years of Beatles-- was short scale. (I don't know if anybody gives a shit, but it's the best piece of short-scale trivia I have.)

I'll let y'all know what I get. -{m}- What's these knobs for? http://www.martianrebel.com
Bob Gollihur
When having some bad hand problems I picked up a short scale "Plan B" p-bass clone SX from Rondo Music. They are in north Jersey; I used to go there as a kid in the 60's, and go up that way every so often. See http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml;$1YUMKGAAAAFE5TZENUEUTIWPERWRJPX0?UCIDs=850849%7C940496&PRID=1322276 I see they now also have a short scale Jazz clone, the SX SJB62 Short Scale, see http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml;$1YUMKGAAAAFE5TZENUEUTIWPERWRJPX0?UCIDs=850849%7C940496&PRID=1442257 I can't speak to the latter, but the Pbass clone is a damn nice instrument for the bucks, solidly built and finely detailed. The E is just ever so slightly a little weak, though it is wearing a cut-down set of 34" scale strings; perhaps properly gauged strings would help a bit. I stuck a vintage P-bass pickup of unknown origin with a new set of white covers into it, but the original pickup was ok- I just had it on hand and figured I'd try it. There are a lot of complimentary older threads on the SX (Essex) basses here and on other boards. When Just another short scale avenue to consider. 1000 Upright Bass Links, Luthier Directory, Teacher Directory - http://www.gollihurmusic.com/links.cfm - Life is too short for bad tone -
