John W.
Does anyone know what Chuck Rainey's gear was on the "Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack" record? He has the big bottom "comfort bass" P-Bass sound down low, with clear, creamy gliss/double-stops that almost sound fretless. This man has some serious right and left hand control and technique--I'd just like to know what he was using that big box of chops on, thanks. jeremy c
Until recently, Chuck played one bass, an old Precision that he bought in high school. I'm sure that's what he's playing on that recording. It's a great bass, he let me play it once for a few minutes. Free download of my cd!.
John W.
Hey Teach! I knew you'd be the one to reply to my question, thanks a lot. Hello from Alameda, and let's do a hang and work on some walking basslines together--I haven't forgotten. All the best, jw
jeremy c
For those of you who don't get the inside comments here, the poster took lessons from me 30 years ago as a teenager. He is now a top jazz player and I want him to teach me some of what he does. We'll get together after the 1st. Free download of my cd!.
