I'd like to reply, but - as a Californian - if there aren't 100+ choices, I just can't muster the enthusiasm to vote anymore. ;)

jeremyc, & All,

I wonder now, if in fact it is true that the Precision Bass was the most popular Fender bass in the past, & that the Jazz Bass is now the most popular Fender bass, at what time the transition was made from Precision Bass to Jazz Bass(year/decade).

While we are guessing facts, my guess is that the Jazz bass got more popular in the 70s as slapping came in...a Jazz is better for slapping than a Precision. Then J-basses really took off in the 90s as high profile players such as Marcus Miller and Geddy Lee were seen playing Jazz basses (which they purchased in the 70s).

There also seem to be more high end companies making versions of Jazz basses these days. The copies of P basses seem to be from low end companies.

These are just my observations and guesses, not facts at all.

And, of course, there are tons of companies making hybrid Precision Jazz copies. I play such a bass, the Warwick Streamer. Neck tiny like a Jazz, Bridge pickup like a jazz. Neck Pickup like a Precision.

So, I guess that this hybrid is actually the most popular.

Tonight, I played a student's Carvin Hybrid, between a MusicmMan and Jazz. Dammit!
