JBFLA
Of those listed, I voted. But my personal favorite, right now, is John Pattitucci; maybe he should be listed as "Best URB/Electric"...but, still... Cowbell
I won't vote. None of the main players I listen to such as John Paul Jones and Paul McCartney and Jack Bruce aren't listed. Plus this topic has been posted so many times I thought it was banned. Welcome to the forums though.

Dan South
Me! I'm the best. At least, I like me the best. I know me the best. I hang around with me a lot, and I'm pretty cool, so I'm probably the best. Best looking, too, in case anyone's wondering. The Black Knight always triumphs! jeremy c
the best for what? Good looks? that knocks out Flea Studio work? Graham never did any. Jazz? bye, bye, Bootsy Rock? just hammer on that open A, Louis, willya? Playing a Broadway show? subbing for me at a society wedding? forget it, Jaco playing in a praise band? Reading? Writing? 'Rithmatic? hey, I flunked calculus. Why don't you put in Bill Laswell? He's played with the biggest variety of artists of anyone I've ever seen. some of Laswell\'s credits Free download of my cd!. DWBass
What the hell kind of list is that?? If you're gonna beat a dead horse at least post up a decent list of bassists (although all on your list are very good)!! And further more, when the hell was the last time Terry Lewis actually played bass??? www.myspace.com/thefunkfather
BenLoy
Jaco playing in a praise band?Something tells me Jaco would tear that up (although he wouldn't slap...and forget about tuning his bass down to low A...)
JDL
Yeah, dude, I'm kind of exhausted with all these "who is the best?" threads and such, weve had A LOT lately, and for once and all: I'M THE BEST but I could be better seriously, why do we have to idolize someone??? Jest make yerself better!! Besides, the guy at Guitar Center said I had chops, so............... jeremy c
no, no, I said I wouldn't want Jaco to sub for me at a society wedding gig. I think all the people on the list would sound great in a praise band, I'd go to that church any day of the week. Free download of my cd!.
Mike H.
Hmmm...strange...Jaco is blowing away all the other bassists listed. Are there Jaco fans around here or something? My vote would have to go to the player that can comp any style. Jazz-Metal, Slap-Ballad, and the rest that fall in between. http://www.identity5.net
davebrownbass
Who's the best president: Richard Nixon Andrew Jackson John Quincy Adams The guy that fought the Civil War George Bush Choose one. Jeremy makes a great point....musicians are great if they fill the niche they are in. If they fail to fill that niche, they are less than great. If Jaco were to sub for me in the praise band, he'd get fired for a lack of humility. If I were to sub for him in Weather Report, I'd get fired for lack of, uhhh, about everything. Talk of greatness tends to minimilize others contribution. I just watched portions of the NBA All Star game...and Michael Jordan is (as I like to say) "Greatness." That leave room for Shaq, who is also "greatness" and even young Steve Nash, who is showing signs of "greatness" "Let's raise the level of this conversation" -- Jeremy Cohen, in the Picasso Thread. dementia13
There's hardly any two bassists on that list who play the same style, so it's really like comparing apples and oranges.
