okay, well, there is no such link so don't try to follow it. it will only end in heartache.

When you are typing your message, note the "Instant UBB Code" section below by the Graemlins. Click the one marked URL and it starts a macro to initiate pop-up dialogs where you can enter the URL and then the description, and it automatically creates the code.

Of course, you could just do what you did and type in the address as normal text, complete with http://.... and you will get a link. It works just as well, but you don't get a nifty little description.
