TomD
New (old) discovery today. I was preparing for an audit (work related not tax related) tomorrow and was listening to a Tal Farlow compilation (Verve Jazz Masters 41) that has a few different bass players on it (Oscar Pettiford, Ray Brown, etc). But every once in a while I noticed the bass line of a particular tune was really driving or had a cool solo. Three times in a row on different songs the bass caught my attention and I checked the liner notes - each time -> bass player: Vinnie Burke... who? I checked All Music Guide and this guy is still alive! He's like, 81 years old. Anybody know where he is and if he's still active? Seems like the last recording he did was with Tal in 1956.
