BenLoy
He's the man. What more can I say? I caught his band last night in NYC and he was still laying it down like a young man (although he was complaining that these days after 11 is past his bedtime). This is a guy who made it to the top of his game by grooving his butt off in nearly any idiom you could throw at him and turning any song into something magical. He played one solo all night, and it was more or less a double-time walking bassline. Making a point? Probably not, he was having too much fun. But what an inspiration! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Any other Rainey fans out there?
Ed Friedland
Chuck is great! I love his work with Grant Green on "Cantalope Woman" from the album Visions. It's also on the Grant Green Blue Breakbeats CD. ------------------ www.edfriedland.com www.edfriedland.com The Bass Whisperer Bass Whisperer TV
swpdndbcity.net
The most classic example of a what a bass player should be. Totally the man. Always will be in my book. K.D.
jeremy_dup1
If I could sound like anyone, Chuck would be the man. Peg by Steely Dan (and the rest of the album)--can't get any better than that. And Rock Steady and Til You Come Back to Me by Aretha, whew! Actually one of the high points in my career was a lesson I took with Chuck where he asked me, why was I taking a lesson and not out making my fortune playing the bass. ------------------ http://www.jps.net/jeremy/basspage.html
