analogika
Interesting. I've never seen them noted as "me" and "ra" — "mi" and "re" only. bfields
In fact, I've always seen "ra" and "me" used for the flatted second and third, which makes for an odd melody in this case.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solfège#Major

Interesting - I did not know this. (I'm practicing, after all). I have wondered how I'm supposed to deal with sharps and flats, and I've been assuming the syllables are the same whether one sings a major or a minor scale. Now I have to go learn the chromatic syllables. Does one pronounce "mi" and "me" the same way? "Re" and "ra"? do do mi so do la la fa so la so do do mi so so re mi fa mi re do

SamuelBLupowitz
As someone who did a whole lot of movable-do solfege in college, I appreciated Mary having a Phrygian lamb there! For real, some people get down on movable do, but those four years of sight singing helped train my ear and hear pitch relationships contextually SO much better than pure interval training ever did. My biggest leap forward in "hearing what I want to play before I play it" in my musical education. 1 Quote Samuel B. Lupowitz Musician. Songwriter. Food Enthusiast. Bad Pun Aficionado.
