Th A4 is the pick of this group. Get the 3 litre engine. If you need more stirage space, get the wagon version (Avant).

 

The Volvo could be had with all wheel drive, as can the BMW 3 series (X models) and Infinti G35x.

 

The Acura TL is interesting, but handicapped by front wheel drive that corrupts the steering and handling. Front drivers are practical for snow driving, but just don't have the driver feedback that a read driven car does. The front wheels can inly do so much, give direct, or give power. We are reaching the limit as too the power that can be transmitted by a fwd. Notice how Cadillac, Chyrsler and Nissan finally given up on fwd in that segment? Honda has arguably been the most successful fwd chassis designer, but even they will go to the rwd format soon.

 

4 wheel drive is the compromise as far as feel, and better in the snow then a front driver.

 

The Audi's interior cannot be equalled unless you step up to big time lux cars, like a Bentley or Aston.... and even they are suspect.

So we ended up with the Acura -

 

bulletproof service history (and if that fails, the best remaining warranty)

very impressed with size, performance and features.

 

If you want to see a car salesman jump, show up with a checkbook on the last day of the month

I said "you got room on that price?" and $900 disappeared in about 20 seconds.
