I hear three things after she sings "lying" - a distorted guitar with a wah pedal, an overdriven Hammond sound, and then the bright saw synth "glitter" Jonathan mentions above.

Spice Girls music has aged much better than I would've guessed

So many songs we sort of rejected for being poppy/catchy/hooky, often performed by artists who were intended to be public novelties of some kind, end up also having been just really good songs in spite of us. "Oops I Did Again"? Great frickin' song. "Holiday"? Groovy. Even "Mmmbop"? All day long. Spice Girls rocked. We just had reasons to be distracted from that. (For me those reasons are all named or otherwise associated with Mel B.)

Now out! "Mind the Gap," a 24-song album of new material.

No denying that choon's a banger. Much of the Spice Girls' catalogue qualifies as such. And of course many of us will have our own reasons to be distracted...

Fun fact: my daughter and Melanie Chisholm's daughter were at school together.

Cheers, Mike.
