tarkus
Always wanted to go modular but I was limited by budget and real-estate. Currently have my DSI MEK and Korg Triton. My latest acquisitions to the KB/Midi world were Moog Theremin and a Sonuus G2M (fun). I do not use computers or laptops or tablets. I'm all about hardware. My next addition will be a percussion controller like the Kat KTMP or Alesis. Seeing Behringer Neutron vids has piqued my interest in adding semi-modular gear to the rig. I really like the Pittsburgh Modular stuff and of course the Moog Mother. Mind you - I have not physically experienced these items. What I would like to do is combine one or two of the aforementioned semi mods to my rig and have the versatility of the Theremin, KTMP, and MEK as the controllers. I would probably rely on midi rather than USB because of my set-up. Assume you all are contractors and the client has handed you the wish list. How do you advise on the gear? what would be your best connection solutions for the hardware reliant? algo mas?
Dave Bryce
I believe some of the inexpensive Arturia stuff is semi-modular, too. The New MiniBrute 2, for example. You can even get the S version with no keys. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
tarkus
Thanks - anyone experience the neutron?
Markyboard
As far as connectivity maybe something like this and this. TBH I struggled to think of a versatile solution that doesn't have a computer in the loop. Even if just for routing there are so many more usb based interface options. Markyboard
Also may want to consider a reissue SEM w/midi.

RABid
My question is what do you want out of a modular? What do you want it to do? Massive stacks of oscillators and filters? Old school analog sequencing? Experiments in audio rate modulation and cross modulation? Blips and beeps? Sound effects? Not sure, you just want a modular. My choice was audio rate modulation and that guided my choice of first modules. Basic sound source and some high end complex LFO's. If your choice is "not sure", which is perfectly fine, I suggest a couple of smaller all in one units like the Moog Mother or Doepfer Dark Energy. Why two? This lets you cross patch the units. Next, either an analog sequencer or a complex multiple LFO with logic combiners. I started wit a Livewire AFG, Vulcan and Dalek. That was a great beginning for what I wanted to do. Markyboard
I really like the Pittsburgh Modular stuff... Other than this statement I thought the OP was looking for a semi-modular. Perhaps some clarification is needed. Edit: Also note Pittsburgh Mod makes a semi-modular.
