d halfnote
It seems to've become the defacto choice for honoring James M Hendrix....it's sorta the "Over The Rainbow" of modern gtr. Am I getting obsessed ? Maybe but it seems so are others. If you don't overindulge at a single sitting each has some colors to offer. 1 / JH live [orig has been pulled from YT] this is a jam with some ghostly harmonica effects, maybe from Paul Butterfield [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wZHoGMNkuc 2 / JH live in Sweden [video:youtube] 3 / Derek & Duane / Layla version (Bobby Caldwell vox) [video:youtube] 4 / Derek & Dominos live [video:youtube] 5 / Eric & Stevie (not that one) [video:youtube] 6 / One of many w/ Derek Trucks, this one offering a meditative intro by Eric Clapton & some blazing blues from Warren Haynes before DT pays simultaneous tribute to JH & EC, who's style he imitates w/ typical fluidity [video:youtube] 7 / SRV 1 live [video:youtube] 8 / SRV 2 live [video:youtube] 9 / Stve Vai [video:youtube] 10 / Steve Vai + Eric Johnson [video:youtube] 11 / Steve Lukather [video:youtube] 12 / Steve V, Steve Morse (somebody countin' all the Steves ?) + metal master Uli Jon Roth [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNQFximXa00 13 / Carlos "Steve" Santana + Joe Cocker [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KzkCqi94Gs 14 / John Mayer [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpP-2JM49Pc 15 / Popa Chubby's rockalized version [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RGa94msW7s 16 / Metallica (yer kidding, right ? whitefang
"Obsessed" with "Little Wing"? Mostly I'd say you're obsessed with posting clips. But again, remember.... Which ever one YOU prefer DOESN'T make it the "best". Just the one YOU like best. Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left! A String
While I'll always love the Hendrix original, Stevie Ray Vaughn's version will always be my favourite. Nice job compiling that list, D! BTW, my point is that this particular JH tune has risen to be his most favored composition & become the standard for demonstrating a pop guitarist's "soulful pedigree". ----- Also I apologize to all for missing the inclusion of Metallica in my hurried editing. Anybody gotta comment on that wild interpretation (near the end) by Parisi ? X d=halfnote
