I was talking to the owner about concerts the store was involved with and asked if any of the synth player played "actual music (oops), ah, I mean, you know, melody and harmony?" He just looked at me impassively. Never thought I would see the day where actually being able to play would seem quaint. Liking prog during the disco days now seems like the innocent age. I did see a post somewhere on Gearslutz somewhat disdainfully referring to the regulars on this forum as "players" a few months back. I wasn't moved to respond, but it did give me some wry mirth.
