Flats on 60's rosewood Jazz Bass: when/why, and what type?

I've got D'Addario Chrome flats on mine. I'm a D'Addario guy -- sound good, last a long time, very consistent, stay in tune -- and these don't disappoint.
This.

Mine are D'Addario's, too. My first set.

I have used Dogal (an italian strings company from Venice) flats on my custom J style, and they are pretty mid rich and singable. I am currently playing Ernie Vall flats because this is what they had that day at the shop, but 55-110 is too thumpy and I am going to look for a different string. Black nylon strings (i tried a set made by Gally, an other italian company based in Naples), but they are a one trick pony and I prefer to be able to choose sounds.

In the end, I have swung the other way round to Rotosound stainless RS66 and I do not regret it, I have a tone control and I can manage.

I migt try Thomastick flats if I find them and am curious about La Bella. Generally I am a fan of d'Addario, especially for their reasonable price.
