d halfnote
We all know that inherently, from the moment we're born [ ] but, as w/ so many things, it's good periodically to get reinforcement of basic principles. Here's 1960s rock starters the Byrds (not Ronnie Woods's the Birds) in a TV setting on "Hollywood a Go Go". They're doing one of early leading figure Gene Clark's tunes (GC was the orig Gram Parsons). It's a massively rocking ballad [ ] & one of the best "see ya later, 'gator" songs ever broadcast on Radio KMFA. At first the manic dancing seems a bit inappropriate perhaps... but when y'consider the actual musical tone of the number + the slyly (but barely) subdued lyrix (+ the fact that when the Byrds premeired in LA, their gigs were accompanied by similar mad go-go dancing), it all seems perfect! BTW, FWIW, it seems they may actually be playing live... It was standard practice to film early 60s bands miming to trax while singing live (as when the Beatles did Sullivan's show) & I'm fairly sure these guys are singing live (different vox mix than orig rec)... ...I kinda think they may be playing live, too, though I admit to not being sure yet. There's a definitely diff balance to the instruments than the orig release. Anywhat, gotta love them dancerettes, eh ?! I think I'm in love w/ the brunette fronting stage right. d=halfnote

Agreed. And, yeah, a little further YouTube perusal shows you to be correct. BTW, FWIW, it seems they may actually be playing live... I'm with you; again, comparing different videos of their appearances doing this song, it seems that they may actually be playing and singing live on some, though like you, I'm not 100% certain. Here's another nice take with better audio; they're similar enough that I'm thinking maybe what we're hearing in the recording WASN'T performed "live" but ma have been, in fact, canned and mimed to... ______ [video:youtube] Anywhat, gotta love them dancerettes, eh ?! I think I'm in love w/ the brunette fronting stage right. You and me both; I noticed her in that vid before I read your post here. She just may be in some of their other vids, as well.
