orangefunk
Sounds a lot like Koln concert I think. Nice!
Mike Warren
Sounds a lot like Koln concert I think. Nice! Ha, that's what it reminded me of too. I enjoyed it. DigitalFakeBook Free chord/lyric display software for windows.
Jim Alfredson
I liked it but thought it was about 2 minutes too long. She should've gotten out of it a bit quicker. Keep it greazy! B3tles - Soul Jazz THEO - Prog Rock
MAJUSCULE
I loved the head, but I did get bored. I may just have been in the wrong mood, because I kept wanting the solo to get meaner and meatier! It was too many fast, clean, single-note lines for me. I really wanted to listen to Horace Silver, which was better. timwat
FWIW, my bass player went to see the Hiromi trio on the first night of her stand at Yoshi's San Francisco. So here's his reaction, albeit second hand. He hadn't seen any of them (Hiromi, AJ, Simon) before and was admittedly drawn to see Jackson. Basically he said he'd give the show a C+ or B-. Felt Hiromi has TONS of chops but sort of has yet to find her own voice. Like, "Oh here you're channeling Chick, here's the George Duke section, here's the Joe Sample part..." And apparently for a $20K signature bass, Jackson's sound was not great. He did say he thought Simon was amazing - wasn't sure what to expect initially as he had a big plexi double bass set up there (and my bass player was seated right in front of it), but he was very impressed with Simon's musicality, taste, chops and restraint. Anyway, just one man's opinion related second hand. And it goes without saying that I certainly don't have the challenge of sounding "too much" like Chick, or Duke etc. Great problems to have. Anyone else see any of the Yoshi's shows? ..
AnonymousInvent
Hiromi is always interesting. One of the things she does that others don't is use asymmetrical rhythms. Anonymous Inventions http://www.anonymousinventions.com
