Michele C.
Do you use envelope filters, distortions, or other pedals that are sensitive to dynamics? If so, how well do your active electronics play with them? Got me a used Boss Syb-5 last night and tried it with my passive bass (think classic JB) and my BB-604. Found out that some more gas puts this pedal in its comfort zone, pushing the volume on the active bass I was fine, while I had to dig a little in to get stable synth sounds with the passive bass. BTW I still think that the Syb-5 is hard to tame. I also have a Digitech Bass Synth Wha, that is maybe limited to a lesser range, missing some control, like filter cut off and resonance (nasty), but it is very very easy to grasp and much fun to play. I came to the conclusion that I might use a booster in front of the Syb-5. The Digitech does not show preferences for a stronger input signal and its sensitivity knob does wonders enabling you to set the pedal in the right zone. -- Michele Costabile (http://proxybar.net)
