Slinky P
That washtub bass thread led me to knotafish instruments where this guy makes basses out of cool things like a keg, a nissan gas tank and a old iron milk container. This got me thinking about building a bass if I ever got my hands on a large resonate hollow object. That got me thinking if I were to construct an URB bass neck to attach to something would I include a truss rod? Do regular URBs have truss rods? davio
No, they don't. They're much thicker.

calypsocoral
German necks tend to be pretty thick. The French neck, on my bass, isn't really all that much thicker than that of an early P-bass (U-shaped profile). For the sake of structural integrity, however, a French neck is usually a few inches shorter than a German neck-- the neck joint on my URB is right at the bottom of 3rd Position, whereas most German-necked basses I've played had their neck joint at the 4th position (the 6th fret and 8th fret, respectively, for all you Electric guys...)
