revolead
My friend and rhythm guitarist, Ben, has a Dan Armstrong aftermarket pickup in a guitar he bought secondhand. However, the guitar neck snapped, so he had to get a new axe. This is Ibanez SJ220 I helped him find at the store. It plays great, but we're both beginning to second guess its sound and are discussing a new set of pickups. He's considering using the Dan Armstrong from the other axe, but I know nothing about these pickups and do not know whaty to tell him in terms of what to expect. Help please? Rev Shut up and play. Dr. Ellwood
I had a clear acrylic Dan Armstong a long time ago, it looked a bit like a SG. It had slide in rocker pickups, you could buy different PU modules and snap them in and out quickly, my favorite combinations where very Strat like tones. They reminded me of some kind of P90ish tone. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
revolead
Ellwood, these are humbuckers. Should we still expect a similar tone? Shut up and play.
Dr. Ellwood
Oh no, I didn't know they where Humbuckers, ok one of the modules was a double rail looking Humbucker and it did sound like a PAF or close to a classic SG style Humbucker as I remember it, the P90 style on that guitar was my favorite though. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
