A String
You need the XTL(I think that's what it's called) version to get the "session drummer" and a few of the other extra features. GuitarPlayerFL
I have the most recent version of SONAR LE which is a cut down version of HS6. It came with my Audio-Technica condenser microphones SONAR is good stuff and they listen to their users on the forum. I think it totally blows away Pro Tools. Strategery
Question. I've got ProTools LE that came with my MBox about 3 or so years ago. Do you guys like ProTools or do you prefer anything else as mentioned here? Also, if I'm not a computer genius and all I'm used to is ProTools, would you suggest that I graduate to something else? The reason I ask is, that I'm not completely happy with my recordings in so far as their sound quality. Thanks and I don't mean to hijack this thread. Randy "Just play!" Rampdog
Randy, I'm not familiar with Pro Tools but there's plenty of guys out there that are... I only know , if you could call it knowing, Sonar... Maybe someone else will ring in here... If it ain't fun...why do it...? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=778394&content=music

Fumblyfingers
Randy, it is not the software...Pro Tools LE is very good software....it is likely how you are getting the sound into the computer and what you are monitoring with. The hardware I/O is very critical. I have the 002R with PT LE 7.4 and it is very good...but even my hardware I/O is fairly low on the range of excellent quality....maybe something like Apogee might be better for me or something else. The older MBox is okay and should get the job done though, you are just limited in input at one time. Also what drum software etc are you using.....all important stuff in the chain. Pro Tools LE is good software....whether it is any better than anything else is debatable and there are factors......it is much better with MIDI than it was but some other programs are supposed to be better. I think you are okay for now......unless you are looking to change. To me Pro Tools is very intuitive and it feels like I am working with an analog setup somehow...like I am in a studio. Logic and Digital Performer would be good choices but I think are Mac only.
Strategery
I've got a Boss DR-880 for drums. For Bass, I'm going through the DR-880's bass modeler playing a real bass guitar. I've also got everything plugged into a small 14 channel mixer with the Main L&R outs going into the MBox. Yes, I'm lazy. At no time is any input redlining. Everything else, I'm micing with a Shure 57. Maybe it's my fault. Can the computer's sound card make the difference? It's just an HP PC Media Center Windows XP. I'll stop hijacking this thread and maybe start a Recording Do's & Don'ts thread. Thanks for the info. Randy "Just play!"
