JayBurger
Hi Guys... I have a 98 Gibson Les Paul Studio, wine red with gold hardware and grover machine heads.. I love it... And... I assumed it was as a standard... but withought the extra abalone inlays, and edge inlays. I thought they were the same machine apart from the extra frills.... However, In a guitar shop the other day.. I was told otherwise... that the studio is made of denser mahogony, and didn't roar... like a standard. I am of course going to have to take in my studio... and compare.. but anybody have anything to add, or advise me on ? Is it worth the extra ? Cheers Guys. Bluesape
The standard has a maple top, but you already love yours, so it's a keeper whether you get another or not. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
tiger85
I've owned two Standards, two Studios. If you really dig your guitar I wouldn't fret over it. You know how guitar shop guys can be sometimes (no offense to anyone ).. I know of a dealership in Memphis where the owners and everybody they hire seem to have an unreasonable distain for all things Fender after 1965. And.. they totally ignore any facts to the contrary... just goes to show ya.. ...touched down in the land of the Delta Blues.....in the middle of the pouring rain.... Guitarzan
as far as i know the studio models are plainer in the looks department (less dressed up) than standards. no neck binding, plainer position markers (newer ones do have trapazoids) and no body binding. most studios do have maple tops (plainer though). some studios like my vintage mahogany has a mahogany top. as far as grade of wood goes the best woods go into the custom shop models and 59 reissues. i seriously doulbt a studio has a lesser wood than any other regular production model LP. someone can correct me if i am wrong. another thing i have found is that people who work at guitar stores rarely are experts on guitars, other than simple specs they may read off of the net if they even do that. some guys who work at stores eat, breathe, and live guitars. you will know when you meet one of them. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will

JayBurger
Cheers guys... I thought it had a maple cap... but couldn't be sure... Had a look at a standard the other day.. Beautifull.. I think I NEED one.. Love the white & gold custom.... But an extra £1000.. ? Don't know how much a les paul is in US.. But here in UK is £1399 for a standard... and £2399 for the custom. Is it worth a trip over to US ? or are they same price there ?
