Guitar55 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I'm in Seattle this week on business. When I travel I always check pollstar.com to see if there are any good shows going on. I saw that Australian guitarist Dave Hole was playing in a small dinner theater in town. I had heard of him., but never heard his music. My friend and I decided to check it out. Wow, what a treat! It was a great show. Dave plays slide exclusively on his Strat through a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10.. He plays rhythm in a conventional manner, but solos in an "overhand" approach, with his left hand coming over the top of the neck. His playing was inventive and incredibly dynamic and his tone was superb, always fat and reach, sometimes screaming, but never harsh. He played 2 one-hour sets and his encore was "Purple Haze". I urge anyone who hasn't heard him to check him out.
Bluesape Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 He used to use a 335 - scary good! Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
Dr. Ellwood Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Yes I remember him always with 335's and once with a Dano. Dave is a great musician and even greater performer/entertainer, yes if anyone gets a chance go see him you won't be sorry!! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
