You're still a perfectionist, it's just that your idea of perfection - like mine - includes a lot of ragged edges. :) And is much harder to achieve than a "technically" perfect recording. I'm glad you didn't burn all your bridges with that engineer and hope that when the time is right, you can still get some good work done with him. Maybe he'll learn a few things from you as well, even if not to the degree you would like, and even if it doesn't really begin to reflect in him for some time to come.
