  1. In this visual mix you can see the organ comes in when the solo starts and then disappears. I do hear some low grinding chords under the short guitar solo and vocal chorus until about 2:25 and then seems to be keyboard-free for the rest of the song.

In this live version Tom Scholz plays an acoustic guitar on a stand until the organ solo and then switches to electric guitar. The second Keyboardist plays very little and mostly does harmony vocals.

  2. My preferred keyboard bass is a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass which I've been using with Doors tribute bands since 1992. I have also played in a few Led Zeppelin tributes where I play bass guitar most of the time and use bass pedals or left hand bass on the keyboard songs. I have a set of Roland PK-5 MIDI pedals which make a great Taurus substitute used with the Behringer Model D. I like to use analog bass sounds when possible but in the late 80s I started out doing bass using samples. I had a Roland S-770 sampler back then which sounded great and had a wide variety of sampled bass guitars and synth basses. In the 2000s I was in a cover band playing bass guitar and keyboard/pedals. This band really pushed me to the limit having to cover many songs that had difficult keyboard parts and then having to do the bass too. For that band I used a Roland S-760 which was much smaller than the S-770 with twice the memory.

  3. She was very serious about her Piano playing and continued to study classical with prominent teachers long after she became well known. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 mainly for her influence on many rock and soul performers. Apparently was an influence on The Animals as they had hits with songs Nina did first.

  4. I regrettably sold my DX7 w/Grey Matter E! a few days ago for $175. It wasn't totally dead but it did have some problems which I couldn't justify putting money into as I haven't used it since the 80s and I now need to let go of the old gear I've been hoarding for decades. The Grey Matter E! board upgrades the DX7 in many ways. It increases the memory to ten banks for 320 sounds on board. Function and controller settings are stored with a patch. Velocity response goes to the full 127. Any MIDI channel can be selected and it can transmit on one channel and receive on another channel. The keyboard can be split with MIDI transmit on one side of the split to trigger an external sound source. There is random detune with selectable degrees of detuning. Every note on the keyboard is individually tunable. A DX7 with E! adds a lot of options while fixing all the shortcomings of the original DX7. E! equipped DX7's do come up for sale once in a while if you keep watch. E! was also available for the DX7II and they too can be found for sale occasionally.

  5. I have multiple Studio Slips covers for my amps. The only Keyboard cover I have is a padded clamshell for my Fender Rhodes Piano Bass. Studio Slips was the only maker that had it on their list of products and it fits perfectly. I also have a clamshell for a QSC K12.

  6. Before I started playing guitar I was listening to The Ventures in Space album all the time. Then I got the first Play Guitar With The Ventures album which really helped me get started on guitar. Then I got the second PGWTV album and started a band with some friends doing instrumentals from both albums. So Don Wilson and The Ventures were a major factor in my early musical development. So sad all the original members are now gone.
