  1. My KC-550 has been fine. The multiple channels and plethora of inputs/outputs have been very useful and it has a lot of power. The sound quality is ok, there's a ton of hyperbolic exaggeration on this forum about it, but I don't find it offensive. No, it's not neutral or dynamic enough to compete with any studio monitor. My biggest issue with it is the ridiculous weight for what it is (65 lbs for 150 watts) with a single flexible rubber handle to lift the unwieldy shape. If I could go back in time, I'd get something else on that factor alone. My rating would be 3 out of 5 stars. It's a tank like others have said and it serves its purpose, but I wouldn't buy again.
  2. Cool little piece of synth history and a great story. I'm glad you decided not to let it get thrown out and discarded!
  3. I actually started to glaze over during that part. Haha. Nick was being a bit verbose like he was trying to impress Matt.
  4. Are you trying to toe tap quarter notes? I was tapping eighths and the groove felt good with the bass falling on a tap instead of between them, but I'm just sitting at my desk not playing keyboard.
  5. At 34, I'm certainly not retired, but after doing the cover band thing for close to a decade with more crappy gigs than good ones I was totally burned out and happy to step away from it all. I don't see myself going back to anything like that lifestyle: weekly repetitive practices that ate up most of a sunday, venues treating us like they're doing us a favor, risking my equipment when things go wrong, etc. I never made decent money anyway, so as of right now I'll only play in a band again when it's on my terms and for people who want to hear it. That much was clear when I bought my looper pedal last year and immediately had more fun with that than anything I had been doing with the band. Congrats on retirement PianoMan51, I'm sure you're going to find new passion for music after shedding the dead weight.
  6. I was once asked by a new guitarist in my old cover band whether I always learn parts in the original key. I responded in complete confusion "Um... why wouldn't I?" And he told me the last time he had a keyboard player, they always transposed the keyboard to play in C. I didn't even know how to respond to that. Holy crap. Eventually that comment made more sense as we realized he was at least an order of magnitude below everyone else's talent and motivation, despite being around 50 years old and thinking rather highly of himself. We called people like that "good enough" players, because they only learn enough to BS their way through a song and think that's being a musician.
  7. if I may ask....what 130 patches and where did you purchase them from Sorry for missing your reply!! I don't know if it's something I set up by mistake, but on this forum I don't get notifications for anything. Anyway, I bought the 4 sound packs from Push Pull on youtube, which can be found here. There's Classic, Ultimate, Ambient, and Atmospheric. It includes a user OSC and a user effect that have to be installed in the correct slots for about 20% of the patches to work properly. It's $20 for all of them combined. As of last night, I also bought the 333 patch collection from Ultimate Patches. I haven't had a chance to play any of them yet, but the demo sounds great and the Covid bonus price knocked it down to $35 total. You can check those out here:
  8. I have a KC-550 and it's currently what I play my rig though. It's a serious amp and like you said it's truly a beast at around 65 lbs without nearly enough handles or grips. It's absolute hell to transport anywhere and if you barely bump your car with it while trying to maneuver that unwieldy shape, it leaves a dent because of the weight. I'm strongly considering a Fender Rumble 100. It's 20 lbs, 100 watts, fits anywhere, and is really highly regarded for tone and flexibility.
  9. If the sky is the limit, there's no way I would pair a YC-61 with a CP73. Figure out whatever you're lacking from the YC and get a keyboard that specializes in it. At the very least make yourself a list of CP alternatives so you have to justify why you wouldn't want a completely new and different sound library for similar money.
  10. He is a very down to earth guy and seems genuine about sharing technique to help other keyboard players improve their chops. He also puts a lot of effort into interacting with comments on his videos for the first few days that they're out.
  11. 130 quality patches for my Minilogue XD! Deleted all the factory garbage, korg could've done much better.
  12. If you're not following following Matt Johnson's keyboard channel on youtube, you're missing out. Not only is he an incredible player, but he has impeccable taste in tone and posts great tutorials. His new video is a demo of the new OS for the Prophet 6 and a promo for a patch package he released, if you own one it's essential viewing. Even if you don't, like me, it's still a lot of ear candy. [video:youtube]
  13. I'm not as gung ho about Subaru as a lot of people in this thread. If you look at one, make sure you test drive it extensively. Their bread and butter models all use a grainy boxer 4-cylinder paired with a CVT like your Rogue. My mother-in-law bought a new loaded Subaru Outback several years ago and everyone disliked it so much that they traded it in early for a Honda. For a unibody crossover, the Subaru leaves a lot to be desired in terms of ride, noise, and refinement in my opinion. Subarus with turbocharged engines are not known for their reliability either. If you test drive a highlander and an outback I'd be shocked if you didn't go with the Toyota.
  14. As a car guy, I wholeheartedly support getting the hell out of that Nissan Rogue. They are not good cars and I would trust a 112k mile 4Runner over a 36k mile Rogue. I wouldn't own any Nissan with a CVT transmission. If I'm the one car shopping, I would try to hold off for a sub-100k mile car since you still have warranty left on the Nissan.
  15. It's nice to hear good news once in a while!
  16. I wanted to bring this thread back up because I finally connected my Minilogue XD hoping to load on some patches I bought and Sound Librarian didn't work on my windows 10 laptop. After about 1-2 hours of troubleshooting I figured it out. 1. The current version of Sound Librarian doesn't work. The legacy version linked right below it on the Korg website DOES work. 2. The current version of the Minilogue XD USB/MIDI driver doesn't work either. Again, I picked an older legacy driver and it worked fine. The fact that both of those latest files don't work is mind-blowing. One of the main selling points of Korg's line of synths is the Librarian functionality. This sort of thing should have been addressed the day it stopped working, but it's been an ongoing problem since last year. Anyway, I just wanted to let people know my successful workaround: legacy downloads for the app and the driver.
  17. Semi realistic: either the new Prophet 5/10 or the Polybrute. Pie in the sky wishlist: Moog One.
  18. That comparison with Wurlitzer was actually better with real Wurli. I find myself Yamaha the best in emulating Wurli so I'm not shocked that CP73 won. But when he hit that low note on the Korg... that note was even out of range of real Wurlitzer 64 keys! That was not clever at all. BTW I find the presets on Wurlitzer on SV-2 not really great, they are dark and not responsive to dynamics. I put "Classic Wurli" sound out of the editor library, set the EQ and tremolo to my taste (including the mix ratio of the effect) and it works well. It is actually fuller than that from little Reface CP (which is great for the price). It was certainly a better video in terms of success of intended purpose: real wurli vs the best fakes. I just remember hearing their SV2 and wincing because my factory SV1 setting was closer, and it kinda threw a wrench in the consistency of the process. I tend to go to the Andersons channel for fleshed out keyboard demos, not ultra focused blindfold comparisons.
  19. Comparisons like this are largely meaningless, especially when they don't even have a real rhodes involved. Why not have a rhodes specialist play several of the keyboards after getting a feel for them and tweaking it on the spot for tonal variety? Then the viewer gets an idea of the strengths and flexibility of the keyboard instead of putting a silly emphasis on the bone stock factory setting. I remember a wurli comparison (with an actual wurlizer) on the same channel where they had an SV2 but actually tweaked the settings in a bewlidering way and it placed last surprising no one. I'm not really a fan of Anderson's comparison videos because I don't find them informative in a practical way.
  20. I saw that keytar for the first time in an ad last week. I gotta admit, it's pretty badass looking! The price is decent, too. Don't give me any ideas here.
  21. Best place for a keyboard player? A house with a dedicated studio room (in my humble opinion).
  22. I never liked gyms (or being around people). Working out at home is cheap and easy, with a little resourcefulness you can cover all the muscle groups with little to no equipment or investment.
  23. This seems to be the cheapest HD option, the RetroN 2 HD. I stand corrected, it outputs 720p, but honestly it looks gorgeous on my 55 inch 1080p tv. https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-RetroN-Gaming-Console-Famicom-nintendo/dp/B07XMP1K97/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=hyperkin&qid=1617992742&sr=8-7
  24. You should look into the Retron game systems. They have slots for NES, SNES, and Sega cartridges (among other things) and they upscale your games to 1080p with various enhancement and visual filters (if you choose to turn them on) as well as sound enhancement to output in stereo and improve bass. I have a retron 5. The original consoles can't compare.
