  1. Indirectly via a web app. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/montage/compatibility.html https://www.yamahasynth.com/yamaha-fm-converter
  2. I remember the "leaks" before the Montage's official introduction... http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/476570/ Many of the links in that very long thread are dead, similar to what's happening with the MODX. Initially there was a lot of conjecture about whether the Montage was the Motif XF's successor. For those of us wanting a truly self-contained workstation, it turned out not to be. I wonder if the MOXF will have a similar fate. Visually impaired users might find the apparently significant dependence on a touch screen to be a real impediment. Perhaps Yamaha will include voice guidance.

Stirring the pot... https://yamahamusicians.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=186&t=11615&sid=57ee7290afd9977473320e082bfabc79 By the way, fccid.io is not a Federal Communications Commission website. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:RPjSL-VnnGgJ:https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-MODX8-88-Key-Weighted-Synthesizer/dp/B07GKB1TXG%2Byamaha+modx Note that... There is a newer model of this item: Yamaha MOXF8 Music Production Workstation $1,699.99
  5. About 25 years ago, when I realized that my gear had a number of 5-pin MIDI connectors that weren't easily accessible, I created a MIDI patchbay. It's based on a 19" rack mount telephone patch panel having two 26-position rows of 1/4" TRS jacks. I soldered two-conductor+shield cables to the jacks at one end, and 5-pin DINs at the other. The top jack row is MIDI Outs and Thrus, the bottom Ins. None of the jacks are normalled - all Out-to-In connections have to be made with 1/4" TRS patch cords. While shield is connected to sleeve, I don't remember what tip and ring configuration I used. However, in this case it doesn't matter - I just made sure the connections were consistent. This configuration is stationary - I don't gig - and has proven to be easy to use and quite reliable. I suspect if it was based on 1/8" connectors, that would not be the case.
  6. Indeed. MIDI spec for the DIN connector requires pin 2 to be grounded for MIDI-OUT, but unconnected for MIDI-IN. About a dozen years ago I found that the noise problem with a system was due to a certain Behringer product (Virtualizer DSP 1000) having pin 2 of the MIDI-IN connector grounded. Disconnecting that ground resolved the problem.
  7. That's a non-standard usage. Only pins 4/5/2(shield/ground) are covered by the MIDI spec. The MMA information is not a recommendation to use the mini-TRS connectors, rather it's an attempt to create a standard for wiring them. Some manufacturers were already using those connectors - the problem was that they weren't all using the same pinout. https://www.midi.org/articles-old/3-5mm-mini-stereo-cables-to-midi-5-pin-din Creative already used a mini-DIN for MIDI on some of their gear. Personally, I'm not changing my avatar.
  8. If 45/F and 53/C# are OK, then a break in a foil on the MID key contact board is possible. If those two keys don't play (in a addition to the five you listed), then a bad connection from the MID to the HI contact board could be the cause. Google "key matrix". See bottom of page 11... http://www.synfo.nl/servicemanuals/Roland/RD-300S_SERVICE_NOTES.pdf
  9. The tip radius for a spherical stylus meant to play LPs (16/33/45) is approximately 1 mil (0.001 inch) or a bit less than that. For 78s, it's about 3 mils, or somewhat less. The size variations relate to things such as age, mono versus stereo, and whether transcriptions. With elliptical and other non-spherical styli, those dimensions are for the major axis. Non-spherical styli are closer to the shape of the cutting stylus, and tend to better follow groove undulations, usually providing better high-frequency reproduction and lower distortion.
  10. It's available as an effect on the Kronos. I added it when for a short time I was in a project that was doing Jump Around by House of Pain. The Motif Classic, ES, XS, and XF all have several "Lo-Fi" effects, including "Digital Turntable". Some preset voices in those models use that effect. Personally, I don't see the attraction, but to each his/her own. :idk
  11. I don't have a MOXF, but my XF has a 1GB and a 512MB flash module installed. Free sample library downloads, designated [Additional Sample Library]: http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?category_id1=16277&product_id=1816956 Some libraries for sale: http://shop.motifator.com/index.php/voice-libraries/moxf.html Yamaha offers only a 512MB or 1GB flash module. Mutec makes the 2GB one: http://shop.motifator.com/index.php/memory/2gb-mutec-flash.html
