  1. Much truth here, although the two product lines trade 8s, technically speaking. The Genos picked up the EPs released in Montage. The Montage picked up the orchestra strings from the Tyros 5. On and on. A large part of keyboard cost is sampling and new sound development. The CFX grand was developed for the Montage and now appears in the Genos. The Genos has a new C7 grand sample. The cost for all of this sound development has to be picked up somewhere by somebody. I think Yamaha throws a fair bit of this cost into the price of the Genos. Hey, hey -- pj
  2. Has anyone ever profiled these home players? I am thinking they may be retired with tons of disposable income , thus dropping cash on this board. If we look at the home organs sold in the mall back in the day the price they sold for with inflation would be comparable to the Genos today? All true. On the PSR Tutorial Forum, there are folks who have pre-ordered. The Tyros and PSR seems especially popular with entertainers in Europe. Schläger music is big in Germany with many variants elsewhere. Nothing like hanging out in a biergarten with a few hundred of your close personal friends. :-) All the best -- pj
  3. That quote came from a hit from a google search on "price", it was stand alone.. Aaaaaaaaaay, no problem. I was just amused as I was about to post the link. :-) Yep, I agree $5500 street is pretty steep. For that much, I can buy a Montage6 and the replacement for the MOXF when it's announced, and still have money left over. S970 is a terrific instrument; I use an S950 for practice and home stuff.   4. Hi Grey -- Short story: Genos is targeted for one market segment and the Montage is targeted for another. Montage is what Yamaha thinks is a synthesizer and Genos is targeted for stage performers, one man bands, in particular. Home players have adopted the Genos because it is a high-end extension of the arranger workstation line. They share a lot of technical DNA including samples and some voices. Features like voice editing, sequencing and so forth are segment-specific (in Yamaha's view). Quality is high at the top of both product lines. Choice of Montage vs. Genos comes down to musical goals. What does a player need for performance? The studio? ... Hope this short answer helps -- pj

I do recommend the Martin Harris demo. Martin is one of the lead developers and he usually focuses on the sweetest spots in a new release from Yamaha.   6. The conflicts sound all too familiar. Our parish just hired a new music director after we coasted with a leader who picked tunes and handled scheduling on top a day job and other church-related responsibilities. The current MD is well-aligned with the pastor's vision, but some conflicts occasionally spring up with the old ways of doing things. (The pastor is relatively new, too.) Overall, I'm glad that I'm "just a follower." Put the chart in front of me and I'll do my best. Sure, I have favorite and despised tunes, but it's a privilege and responsibility to play. The tunes I dislike might be someone else's favorite. And the _congregation_ comes first. (Ministry = Service) I try to support the leadership and to encourage the rest of the team members as much as possible. At the very least, we all have that little voice inside that criticizes us, etc. and we all need support and encouragement. Finally, if it stops being fun, then maybe it's time for a sabbatical.
