  1. I think it will be like the PC4, same OS, better/more chips/memory, but don't think they will re-invent the wheel. Doesn't appear to have fader LED's like the Forte, most likely a Fatar keybed and more sampling ability. I'm happy to stick with my unless there are major changes,
  2. I never updated my post from above. I had the Xm for a couple weeks but returned it. Too much menu diving for me. Might be fine for someone who's willing to work with the screen editor on a regular basis.

     

    The X would be too heavy and bulky for my purposes, which is a shame because aside from the lack of surface controls, there was a lot that I loved about the Xm.

     

     

    I did the same, had it for about two weeks, but found editing too tedious, if they had an ipad editor for it then I'd consider another one.

  3. Definitely interested in this too, I'm currently running an Ipad 11 Pro, which is pretty good to be honest, but limited with what apps are available. I'd be interested in Ipad Pro running the mini idea though, although wouldn't want an over complicated setup playing live, it looks like you can use a luna display adaptor to go wireless. A newish mac mini with 64gb of RAM I'm sure would run a good amount of VST's at the same time? I really like the Roland Cloud instruments but they are too hard on CPU to really use live.
  4. I'm currently setting up Camelot on Ipad and enjoying it, enjoying it so far. I've had a few glitches, mainly using D1 FM synth. I alos emailed the camelot guys and I'm missing the option for effects and thats apparently coming in the next few month so looking forward to that. I also hope they add inter-app audio as would like to use the Korg apps but currently sticking to mainly TAL-UNO, Poison 202, Synthmaster, Hammond B3-X and Pure Synth which all seem reliable so far.
  5. If you want the best reliability go with the Yamaha. Its also easier to build performances on. However I find the Forte more rewarding when you dig deeper into programming, more organic and better feel IMO. i'm sticking with Kurzweil but I am lucky enough to have a backup forte in case one breaks down. The montage is more commercial sounding out of the box, but the Kurzweil can achieve most sounds really well with a bit more work.
  6. If you really must do the comparison thing, from someone who owns both the Forte and Fantom I"d say:

     

    Kurzweil is better for:

    Midi control options

    Orchestral sounds

    Vintage flavoured sounds.

    Better arpeggiator

     

    Fantom is better for:

    User interface

    Programming sounds from scratch

    Synth sounds and synth bass sounds

    Modern sounds / super saws etc

     

     

    Stuff like pianos/eps etc are good on both so really a matter of taste. The kurzweil is more flexible but with that it becomes less user friendly and easier to get tied in knots programming, the Roland much easier to find your way around and quicker to program. The Roland is also better for quick patch selection live which is why I make it the master in my rig.

     

    Obviously this is just my opinion and I love both these machines for what they do well.

    -Improved tone category button operation on the SCENE SELECT screen.

  8. Good point. I'm just talking soundwise. As a Montage/Kronos owner I was disappointed.

     

    IMO Trying one in store doesn't give you a true idea of its power. I've owned every workstation there is, and so far Fantom is my favourite. Different strokes I guess, all depends what you use it for. I play covers so for me the UI and being able to emulate a patch very quickly, control external gear all via the Fantom and its sheers quality of sound when going direct to the PA is better than I got from the Kronos or Montage... anything else Roland add to in in future. is going to be a bonus for me. Going back to a Kronos or Montage now after using the Fantom for a couple of months would feel clunky and slow...

     

     

     

     

     

  9. Considering the usual update policy and abandon your products strategy of Roland I wouldn't hold my breath. For me that is the EXACT reason I don't pull the trigger on a Fantom yet. If it is supposed to be a one-instruments does it all (for live gigs) solution, like the Kronos, then the acoustic sound palette is very small, old and unconvincing. I see no improvement over , let's say , the Integra7 and Jupiter80 there in terms of sound quality, sound quantity and playability (totally missing out Super natural and especially behavioral modeling (JP80)!). It's all romper sampling (80's / 90's) again , presumably in small memory packages. Synth side is promising, V-piano very expressive, although it could use an update to the models found in the latest LX paint series (why not Roland?), which have much more substance and body (European Grand). Workflow , controls, integration with DAW , Audio/ midi integration is all great - but where is "the sound" ; I don't hear it. And those tiny Axial sets (32 MB ?) are not going to change that, just recycling same old material. Come on Roland - you can , and should do better by now. Give us the fresh , new , big updated sounds and enough memory to store them (GB's not MB's) ; this is almost 2020 , not 2005. It makes me wonder what Korg will be cooking up as catch-up response to the Fantom. If they incorporate a big FLASH RAM with lots of content from there massive EXS libraries and the engines of Kronos in a fast , lightweight and mean controller package , it will give Roland a run for the money. These Kronos acoustic EXS packs sound soo much better , although they are like 10 years old and aging too. Would have thought Roland would catch up there after the Fantom G debacle (weak acoustic sounds) , but so far - I don't see it happening.

  10. Got a bit more info today from the Sud-Claviers video on youtube. I guy on facebook was nice enough to translate some of it.

     

    The French Roland Rep confirmed the Fantom has 8 expansion slots, which will be used for Plug-Outs, Axial Sounds & New Filters... look forward to some of these rolling out

     

    This is going to be one killer machine in the future.

    It's pretty hard to watch, the sound and video quality aren't too great. I think I prefer well recorded demo videos to give a better idea of it's sound. Plus with LIVE Q&A you get all the walters who ask the same old questions or decide its a place to critique the instrument..... what keybed does it have? wheres it made? it's cheaply built, it's too expensive... bla bla bla...

  12. If you can't edit the tone right inside the scene down to the oscillator level (instead of just doing offset), than it doesn't really count in my book as not having different modes.

    Since obviously tones have to be saved separately, I'm also curious how many user slots are there for own tones. There are 3500 or so preset tones, but how big is the user area?

     

    That was just 1 example. You can edit a tones from scene level. When you press one of the 4 parameters keys, osc/filter/eg/efx, it drops you right into the edit menu for the selected zone. If I'm creating a combi and I want to edit a single tone I need to remember the patch name & location, enter program mode, find the patch and parameter, make adjustments then save & exit back into combi.

     

    I think I read 512 user tones. I could be wrong about that.

     

    I had a look on my Fantom 6, and user tones appear to go up around the 2000 mark, think people are getting mixed up with the "Scenes" which there are less off, but PLENTY of space to save your own tones.

  13. Well, watching the Bonner Music video actually turns me away from this keyboard. The fact that you can"t changes tones (and their corresponding FX) and have that change saved within a scene WITHOUT changing the original sound forever ( or having to save a slightly tweaked version of the same sound) really disappoints me. That seems like something the industry has had out there for years now with the Kronos and why a $3500-$4000 brand new board would not have that capability is beyond me.

     

    This is not QUITE correct, the Fantom (like the FA) has a page called OFFSET where you can alter things like cutoff, resonance, attack, release, decay etc without altering the original TONE. I used it a lot on the FA series. This may work for some people, or may be something that can help talk yourself out of needing a new Fantom.

  14. Interesting thread, I've been looking for a dual put expression pedal for a while that will work with my MODX and Kurzweil Forte so save space. Also looking for a switched (two seperate cables) sustain pedal. I've tried usual a dual 6.3mm adaptor but the MODX doesn;t like being coupled the the Kurweil Sustain, it must pick it up somehow and disable sustain.

  15. LOL I own a 20k PA system, lug it to every gig, me and the better half set up and break down and I do sound, still dont charge the band for it. The boys appreciate the quality system and go away happy that they sound good, thats enough for me, if they were the complaining type though Id definitely remind them of how easy they have it.
  16. I own both a Forte 7 and MODX6, I like both in their own ways. I like the ease of transport of the MODX6, love it sounds and touch screen is quick and easy to edit on. I mostly miss aftertouch, other than that its great.

     

    I wouldn't trade me Forte for anything, is the most flexible midi controller, sounds full and organic and love how little space it takes up on stage. Its got a great feeling keybed to play.

     

    I'm sure anyone would be happy with either... or both.

  17. My FA-06 is gone. The MODX7 will replace it next month. I haven't bought a keyboard in 5 years. That's a good thing, right?

     

    You may miss the pads/synth strings and synth sounds from the FA, everything else is pretty good, but I had to get an integra-7 aswell to satisfy the thick sound the Roland has.
