  1. I love the way the song sounds in Eb, and agree that it was probably written in that key to aid brass players (and perhaps Stevie was also comfortable in that vocal range, though - it's Stevie - and I think he's a brilliant master at all keys). Also, just a thought - I always imagine the clav part in that song as something very much like slap bass (sonically, maybe). I know that when I play it, I sometimes get around the keys using the side of my thumb, in a percussive style. I can't do that as comfortably on white keys as I can on black keys - they provide more room on the keyboard to funk it up. Of course I don't do the song must justice whenever I cover it, however whenever I do, I find working in that key to be a breeze.
  2. That stuff's pretty funky, I'm like it! Thanks for sharing.
  3. That's a cool story, alright! I've always imagined what the reactions of those around me would be upon hearing a synthesizer for the first time.
  4. Hi everyone, My posts are often long, especially introduction ones, but I'll try to keep this brief. I'm a student based in Montreal and am in love with synthesizers. I first started playing piano as a boy, and got into synthesizers a few years ago. I like to think that I've come a long way since buying my first synth in 2007 at 14; I purchased my first analog synth, a beautiful Juno-60 last year, and recently picked up my second vintage synth, a DX7. I got into recording this summer, and use Logic Pro on a MacBook Pro with a PreSonus interface. I also own various other keyboard instruments, and plan on buying myself an accordion in a couple of months. I'm a big fan of the current Montreal indie music scene (my profile name is a nod to the band Wolf Parade), but I appreciate lots of music, and I'm even a fan of music history. I'm a subscriber of Keyboard Magazine, and look forward to becoming an active forum user. I had an old account and posted once or twice about an old organ we brought home and quickly threw away, but I forgot about its credentials. Either way, this post is getting a bit long now, so enough about me. Cheers, Sean
