  1. Yes, I did tweak my piano sounds quite a bit before the gig. Cut way back on the reverb, reduced string resonance and did some EQ adjustments, and it sounded good at home in a fairly big room under optimal conditions. But not so at the gig. That's why I think I may need to mess with gain settings more. I go through a small 8 channel Behringer mixer into the SS. Will keep trying.
  2. Thanks timwat I will be getting new cables and will certainly do Aspen's test. As far as what the audience is hearing...I don't care. Well...I do care but let me explain. 99% of the gigs I play, we have a FOH system with a soundman, so he controls what the audience hears. I got the SS solely for an onstage keyboard monitor for myself. Also many of the stages are so small, there's no room for optimal placement. So if this is going to work for me, it has to perform in those situations. Even with very limited real estate, my JBL Eon510's always sounded good to sometimes excellent.
  3. Okay, so got to use the SS for the first time at a gig. First impression...Mixed. Medium sized restaurant/club. About 250 or so people. Stage is about 20 feet long by 5 feet wide. I set up in the corner where there is a 3 foot high wrap around wooden wall to my left. Set up the SS in the corner to my left where the wall created the trifold effect. Figured it would be perfect. I set up early in the morning before any patrons get there, so I was able to try things out albeit at a low volume. Things sounded pretty good. Nice and clean, but again, low volume. Return 12 hours later to a packed house. This band is loud and we play 1 three and a half hour set with no breaks, even between songs. So no time to make any major adjustments except mixer(Behringer 8 channel) volume or eq tweaks and quick SS knob adjustments. Organ and horn patches sounded great. Loud and clear. But AP sounds were muddy and did not cut through the loud stage volume. Need to experiment more, I guess. Buying some new cables this week. Also need to play around with gain stage setting.(If anyone can point me to a good tutorial on this subject, would appreciate it.) Anyway not giving up yet, but just a bit disappointed.
  4. Cphollis, thanks for the tips. I think the hardest part will be the proximity factor. So many of the stages, and I use the term very loosely, are so small that I won't be able to place the V.3 more than three feet away, so that's going to be a real challenge. Tomorrow will be my first gig with it, on a small and very tight stage, so I'll get a good idea of the placement factor. Also get to hear it in a full and loud band experience. Will report back afterwards. Thanks again.
  5. Hi everyone, I've been lurking around this thread for the past several weeks and am finally caught up. As a former owner of a SFX 100 and a keyboard player always looking for ways to downsize(bad back), I took the plunge and bought a V.3 from Sweetwater. I've had it a few days now, and while I am happy with it, I am still looking for ways to improve my AP sounds. Earlier in this thread, some of you guys spoke about tweaking your AP patches to improve their sound through the V.3. I have tried backing off the reverb, lowering string resonance, and even cutting back on decay, but I am still not 100% satisfied. I am primarily a piano player who plays the usual amount of organ, strings, brass and the like, but its piano first and foremost with me. I use a MOXF88 as my main axe. What specifically have you guys done to improve the sound of your APs with the V.3? Thanks for all the great information posted here.
