The craziest thing I ever saw on stage happened two feet downstage of my keyboard rig. I started playing strip clubs in Ft. Lauderdale in 1970 when I was 15 years old. One of the dancers (Olga), had a number of acts where she usually ended her performance by unintentionally hurting herself on stage. One instance involved a nipple and a torch… we were playing “Stormy Monday” behind her… but I digress…
One night she decided to up the theatricality of her act and was dancing with a live prop, an eight foot boa constrictor. In the middle of the number she accidentally suffocated the snake (I will not go into details, but lets just say that it was exceptionally lurid). When she lifted the limp body of the snake, she broke into tears and ran off the stage.
As Dave Barry says, “I am not making this up.”

I don't consider $800 to be a cheaper tablet. $400-500 would be nice. I still might get it.
I still think its a good choice as its $500 less expensive and does everything you or I would need.
I am considering it as my main performance iPad as my current 2021 iPad pro has all my performance data on it. I would like to use that one just for home and for a performance backup.

I have an iPad Pro that predates the M series chips. I want to upgrade to a 13" screen because I use it for reading music at gigs. The speed/performance on my older device is totally fine though. I use a laptop for real video and audio work. I wish Apple made a cheaper 13" iPad because viewing pdfs doesn't require a fast chip.
They do now with the new 13” iPad Air.

There's also the variable of volume. If you're offered a road gig where you're going to play, say, 20 shows over a month, you can't really compare that to staying home and doing weddings, because even the busiest wedding player is not going to get anywhere near 20 wedding gigs in a month. Looked at as bringing in $6k to $10k for the month is a lot more appealing than looking at it as $3-500 a gig. (And even more so if it's a time of year when local gigs are slow.)
‘true.. but you also don’t have to sleep on a crappy bus with a bunch of smelly musicians…- 1

Love my Mojo 61. Pound for pound, best sound, keyboard feel, and value for a weekend warrior.
-
Have you been to a mall lately? In So Cal 1/2 of the mall stores are empty shells.

For weekend warriors the MODX7+is hard to beat. Can cover all the parts in most Toto songs on a 76. Africa is a breeze.

It still is $149 at the apple app store.
So maybe the discount is only for win/Mac or maybe you can get a rebate if you want ios.
I'm sure that's the lowest it will go unless ik mm is about to crash.
No you can't use the onboard leslie with other sound sources.
I paid $29 a few years ago. -
I would bet that Paul could run rings around most of the members of this group, me included! How about enjoying this rare moment celebrating the B3 without criticizing the players? As my father used to tell me, you never look good bad-mouthing your colleagues.- 1

Yup. Loved reading this book. Some amazing stories.

All I can say is that we have experienced great audience reactions to their arrangements when we play them live.

Try to modify the velocity offset. It was a revelation for me when I learn that!
So true. As my keybro Viv Savage suggested, make some basic AP and EP performances, then modify the velocity to about “75” and it makes a huge difference!

Are we talking about rating artists or playing ability? Because rating artists is a fool’s errand.

Every time I pick up that 17lb wonder I am reminded of how much it is worth putting up with the keybed.
In my Classic Rock band, my rig consists of a 17lb MODX7+ and an iPad pro with B3-X and Korg Module. Talk about a lightweight rig!

I've seen the Billy and Elton show a couple of times. IMHO Billy is the more pyrotechnic rock player. When Elton stretches out and solos though, it was clear to me he's more sophisticated harmonically. His understanding of New Orleans-style playing is unmistakable, too.
Elton was a huge fan of Leon Russell’s playing. Yesterday I was listening to both “Burn Down the Mission” and “Amoreena” and could hear Russell’s style in Elton’s playing.- 2

I have a mint M300 with many of these tapes. The M300 strings are vastly superior to the Mark II (IMHO)

I took a few bass lessons from Nick Campbell. He’s got groove for days.Yeah, that bass line is awesome. My bass player loves playing this song. We also do their cover arrangement of “Stayin’ Alive”.

This is one of the two Scary Pockets covers we play. I love playing the key parts of this song.

The Gibson is pretty good… but the Mellotron sort of put things in perspective.

RIP Mike Pinder, he was pretty much the last surviving member of the group (Justin Hayward and John Lodge were not founding members of the Moodies, having replaced Denny Laine and Clint Warwick respecitvely after their 1965 debut The Magnificant Moodies.)
He was not only a Mellotron player, I think Mike Pinder also used a Chamberlin starting on the Seventh Sojourn album (an updated Mellotron which works on the same principle, made by the same company and, yes, sounds the same). That said, Mike Pinder was an excellent keyboard player for Moody Blues, he definitely introduced the Mellotron to a larger audience.
The Mellotron community is truly mourning tonight. Prog would not be the same without Mike Pinder. I will go home tonight and play Legend of a Mind on my M300.
Here is the link to the NY Times obit. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/25/arts/music/mike-pinder-moody-blues-dead.html
Speaking of the M300, just to set the record straight, Pinder also played an M300 on the Seventh Sojourn album, (There is a photo of him playing one on that album, I think)

Love this stand. Just started using it for my two keyboard rig. Sets up and strikes in seconds.

Nefarious? No - an honest question. Why have a second channel? My assumption is more clicks for more revenue. Rick himself has talked openly about how to turn content creation into a viable business model.
I'm assuming somehow you include me in that "group", as you have tacked it onto my quoted post. As a 20+ year member of this forum, I strongly disagree and will let my past interactions speak for themselves.
yeah… I am surprised as well. I would think that people who have been contributors to KC for as long as you and I would know better.
Shhhh.... Touring musician pay

I can even argue against that. Take Liberty DeVito, for instance. He more than just about anyone else in Billy Joel’s original band contributed to the sound of the original music and the performance dynamic of Billy Joel’s tours. However, after Billy fired Liberty, people did not stop paying $$$$ to see Billy Joel.
