  2. Oh-boy weirdness! Finally! Well is it really that weird! Maybe,Maybe not! alright,I'm happy for the time being GOOD NIGHT I'm going to bed!
  3. Ah Ha! The Blue Room, it's really an American place! Just a happy accident Gangsu but weird! Carlo, thank you man!
  4. SK, Thanks, this is a new idea for me but I am enjoying it!
  5. Ok, These Foolish Things, I didn't play the head, just blew over the re-harm like a solo. These Foolish Things here's a 2nd take w/ one or two sour notes. These Foolish Things - Re-harm take 2
  6. Talk about lame, I've been trying some re-harm. First I started to RH 'All the Things You Are' and had a bit of luck. Then I started to Re-Harm 'These Foolish Things' and stayed with it and started to really like the whole process. Of course I forgot what I had done on All Things. I have absolutely no training in this whatsoever! If I can get the nerve up and have some time, after a little practice, if I feel it's not too lame I'll post it on DivShare.
  7. Marino, Are you getting a hard-liner voted in over there?
  8. Floyd Tatum, The guy I study with is 68 years old and a stone improviser. A real be-bop player. Good classical player also. The thing that knocks me out about him is that he can, on the spot 'reharmonize' a melody or his improvised line for that matter using a drop 2 voicing. I guess that would be one of the ways to ride the line with an improvised re-harm that's not written out! Another thing related to the drop two or a locked hands/block chord approach is Lennie Tristano's 'Formations'. They would also allow a type of re-harmonize on the spot. I posted all the major formations last year I think. I personally haven't re-investigated them in some time! Larry Bluth the guy I study with will blow using either the Tristano formations or drop two, or drop three for that matter on the fly. I just watch in amazement. I really don't have that kind of time to work through all of that material and work on applying it in my blowing! That's a very modern paradigm I would say! I would think Zawinul was hep to things like that and their application, people like that. Maybe people here also I don't know! Richard, I like the way you sound/play regardless of whats totally improvised and what's not. lb I think reharmonization is more synonymous with composition than improvisation, usually. I would say, it's usually composed, and optionally, put on paper. The actual execution of it, the playing, can be improvised. Or, it could be written out note-for-note. There's no rule. Some people can just make everything up on the spot, I guess, but not me. Well, actually, I can do that, but the results are usually not very good. I improvise, but I like to have some form to work from - melody, chord changes, form. If you're playing alone, it's easier to totally 'wing it' in the moment (melody, changes, form). If other musicians are involved, it becomes very hard to not have any structure. In this thread, we've been doing mostly jazz-style reharms of standards. But it doesn't have to be that. You could reharmonize a hymn, and write it out note-for-note, if you wanted, for example.
  9. SK, Thanks! I think I'm starting to get with Re-Harm a little bit. I've been playing around with 'These Foolish Things' and I cracked open the Levine book again. Good inspiration in this thread! lb
  10. Gangsu, Not at all, that's what it's there for!
  11. Thanks Sue, as with all of us, our music is a work in progress and I'm a lif-er! The real keeper is the music itself, were lucky we have it, but thank you again!
  12. Sue, Try this now, 1st time on DS, so! The volume comes across lower than it was on ESNIPS (my original low record level), you'll have to raise it! Cat's Cradle
  13. Sue, try it now, DivShare is on my to-do list! let me know!
  14. hold on, whats up with this thing!
  15. Qanqsu, A good goal would be for me to put something up freshly recorded. Though I am a fairly serious player and still study at the ripe old age of 53, I work a day job (Systems Analyst/Software Developer)! So I'll try to record something new and maybe take a minor stab at re-harmonizing a part of it. But there is this, I haven't really recorded anything lately. It's from a Bossa groove and changes I found in Band-in-a-Box 2007 with Real Drums. It's a JV880 Acoustic bass patch and my CP300. Some of the chords are altered but not really re-harmonized. There is some drop out a few minutes in. I hit the record button accidentally on mix down on the Tascam. It's alittle smooth Jazz-e sounding, the BB tends to lend itself to that! Cat's Cradle (bring the volume up, the record levels were low) They just cut my hours at work down by 20% which is scary and wonderful all at the same time! I'm already scheming to try and pick up some new piano students for Fridays and get a solo piano gig or two for the summer. I play with some local Blues and Swing outfits also. One plays some big shows actually usually as an opener and does some minor touring. I still enjoy playing the electric stuff but as I get older I find it less appealing as a pianist. lb
  16. SK, Thanks SK! I like to believe there is a directness in my playing yeah! I wouldn't admit it to myself until very recently either for some reason talk about emotional concerns. And I do like insight yes! It helps! There are really alot of aspects to playing people don't consider but I can't think of any better place for door's to be dicovered in over a lifetime than in music, infinate. It really has something for anyone and it comes to them when they are ready! Best not to prioritize too much! I like to hear and see insight's application in the world! like an insight junky yeah!
  17. you know I've been boiling this down like whale but I think Re-Harm is in alot of ways how alot of piano players really hear, you know like in their ear's heart like some kind of sanctum. truly weird and wonderful! SK I like how you solved the harmonic thing and emotion through using a chord resolution to the alternative minor. I must admit I get bored harmonically also and your right, a bit emotionally beat up feeling by that now that you mention it. I guess sometimes it's just a matter of really trying to get to the stage of just hearing and then it works itself alittle more.
  18. One day I'll be good enough to Re-Harm, for now I guess I'll just have to Harm (hopefully only myself)! Now what is that chord again! Actually I've been going through some of the lead sheets very slowly. The ones that aren't notated in 2 clefs as Linwood's Blue Freakin Bossa (which I really liked) and are really lead sheets, I'm having some problems with. I'm not sure how to voice the chords exactly. I'm obviously not skilled enough yet to figure out how to voice it all. Like Floyd's (Richard's) 'Girl From Ipanema' but I got alittle ways with that in spite of myself! I need to bone up on my voicing knowledge, not getting a whole lot of that from my guy, but I am getting alot of other stuff from him! Line and rhythm work. Anyway, great thread! lb
  19. qanqsu, It IS fun Sue yes! Dave thanks once again for starting this, much of it a little over my head. SK man the tunes and videos were fine! Thank you! Linwood, I checked out Blue Bossa last night, I love it man. I'm picking away at this thread slowly! I've been out of commission for awhile, my dad has been very ill. He is recovering though thank god. tony LB, you just said exactly what I've been thinking. This thread has made me WANT to play the piano. I'd forgotten it's fun. Really, I think it's been years. So the bonus point for me hasn't been to come up with anything original, phew, but just to have rediscovered a selfish pleasure. If that makes any sense. Hey, big thanks to SK for taking a chance with this thread. (I hope you haven't been suffering any TSR ) I might not be getting it, but it's free.
  20. A bus stops and 2 men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following: "Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more! Two asses, dey come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time." The lady can't take this any more, "You foul-mouthed sex obsessed pig", she retorted indignantly. "In this country, we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives". "Hey, coola down, lady," said the man. "Who talkin' abouta sex? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spell 'Mississippi'." $5.00 says you're gonna read this again t
