  1. Just total shredding on the blues with an upright. The horn stuff on the second half is my reconstruction of a harmonized Charlie Parker solo - from an arrangement I played with the Woody Herman band.

This is very 'period' stuff here (Not sure what "new blues" would be though.)

    That was great!

Some tech questions if you don't mind.....

What sample set did you use for the brasses?

    What DAW are you using!

  2. David, I really enjoyed your impro; as Dave Ferris said, the new piano seems to have inspired you to new levels of concentration and musicality.

I also have to thank you for reminding me of how long has passed since I did something similar. Too many duties in my life lately; no time to relax and just having a bit improvising fun. I do it just at gigs, for intros and transitions...

But tonight, inspired by your tune, I just sat at the keyboard and mucked around for a few minutes. Here is the humble result... just random wandering up and down the keys, really, but it started some little wheel spinning again. Thank you! :)

    That was beautiful Carlo!

  3. V, I just finished writing out the whole arrangement last night. Unfortunately my scanner is STILL not working. I know this dates back awhile to when I was going to post those F minor examples for Tim Wat. My brother-in-law tried reloading the software from HP and no luck, I'm not sure what to do at this point---maybe get a new computer. In any case it is, along with several others, done and just waiting to be scanned.

Thanks Dave. I know you probably don't want to go the "notation software" paradigm...you're probably to busy for that. But Finale has a simplified version which you might want to check out. After you've written out the score in Finale, PDF Creator is a neat free utility which will convert that Finale file to pdf so you can send it out.

    Just a thought.....

  4. Interesting chords on your Wine & Roses, vicsant.

I wrote a sick alternate melody to that song once. Maybe if I get the nerve sometime, I'll post it.

Thanks for listening SK. Btw, DD was amazing. Wish I could come up with something like that!

  5. and the useful thing about reharms - they open us up to try new approaches.

I also notice that the more one reharms, the "easier(?)" it gets...It's still a lot of trial and error to get something that you like...but you're right....we get to try new approaches, and more important, our ears begin to open up more!

and then there's a time to finally sit down and play some music.

I need to spend less time on forums too to get to play more, but then, forums like this are invaluable. This reharm thread has really got me into more reharms, and I'm constantly amazed by the contributions made by the reharm gurus here!
