  1. There is no right or wrong, it is all personal preference. Both the WA and WB are cheap, low gain, but sturdy tubes. If it were my unit I'd go NOS and used a tube that meets spec rather than one that surely is not even close. Kool-so aside from manufacturer`s recommendation-and keeping in mind it`s not an amp-how would you determine the best choice? unfortunately the unit has been discontinued-I don`t know if there`s enough tech information available to brave the NOS waters. BTW thanks for the reply. All 12AX7s are interchangeable. If you need NOS assistance, a great guy is Mike at www.kcanostubes.com Thanks very much for this Myles-I`m busy with audio and visual projects at the moment but I will contact Mike-hopefully I can get something going before jumping back into the studio in April.
  2. This is not exactly new but, it`s so hard to track one down that it might as well be. I have asked several friends from Italy about it but,no luck so far. Maybe someday-anyway...: http://www.orlandoamps.com/ebrilliance.html

  4. Greetings Myles This is my first question in ages-I have a VHT Valvulator, which is basically a line buffer-the manufacturer recommends a Sovtek 12AX7WB as the proper tube, but I just got my second replacement tube and, somewhere along the line-I don`t know if it`s my fault for grabbing the wrong tube off the shelf (previously) or the music store guy needs glasses (the new one), but they called and told me my 12AX7WA tube had arrived. I thought, uh oh. I looked on the receipt and sure enough, the guy wrote 12AX7WA. I saw a chart which shows about a 10% loss of gain with the WA and it is not the best choice for an amp-but is it a problem for the VHT? I have a recording session in two days so I`m not going to go back to the store at this point.
  5. Most enjoyable Scott! Fine playing and well thought out pieces.
  6. Yes, very kool for live applications.
  7. These sound interesting, I want to try the String Reviver: www.mcsystemsmusic.com
  8. Agent-XBR nice! very clean, has a `well composed` feel and good phrase choices. .
  9. that looks more like an angel dust inspiration...ouch.
  10. Wow, Eastwood-I ran into them at the Tokyo Music Instrument Fair-which by the way, was supposed to be happening in November this year but for unexplained reasons has been postponed till 2014. Quite so, here is the Eastwood version-they didn`t even change the name: http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/index.php/eastwood-guitars/all-eastwood-guitars/solid-body-guitars/item/breadwinner
  11. I recall liking the look of those when they were current too- still do but haven`t seen one in ages.
  12. I`ve seen that-that is not dancing, it`s trying to keep from falling down
  13. By then it`s already to late to worry about the wallet.
  14. I`ve been a paid wordsmith at times-comes in handy
  15. Ya and sorry, the idea that they don`t have an army of customer service people-so what. That should make it easier for both hands to be on the same butt, ya know?
  16. All that for a `gee sorry` and here`s your money back. No freakin way would that fly here. The guy who sells you stuff that doesn`t work will show up at your door-with his manager-and give you a new one, along with a bouquet of flowers or a box of biscuits. I bought a pair of shoes in Bangkok, went to the beach for a few days and discovered they didn`t fit like I thought. Five days later I told the store person and asked for an exchange, no receipt. No problem.
  17. I think it`s just at the next bend over...
  18. The Tokyo Music Instrument Fair is coming in early November. If I see a TC rep I`ll let him know about this sordid mess if he doesn`t already. Another blow against the inept empire...
  19. Ya, what an ambush-so much for the idea that someone with a reputation to protect will go the extra mile. These guys never even made it to the finish line. Even worse, I had one of their chorus pedals high on my want list-the key word being `had`.
  20. I think we could still call this kind of news going viral, but more in the original sense of a virus-we`re all getting sick from the same company haha...
  21. Holy crap, I just read this entire thread. Unbelievable, my take on TC just took a monkey wrench to the head...
  22. Couldn`t sign off without mentioning Basslab- haven`t tried one yet, maybe this fall: http://www.basslab.de/
  23. OK, that IS a baritone then. Always wanted one of those. At various times Fender has made Tele or Strat baritones, but never at a point that I had an excess of cash on hand. This one would require an excess-the cheapest one is about $2,500 new and that one is standard 22 frets: http://www.harrysjp.com/guitar/zone-bn.htm However this one is actually listed as a baritone-hence the name Zone-B. Also a headzup-there is a U.S. builder also using the name Dragonfly, not the same guitars at all: http://dragonflyguitars.com/wp/
  24. Yup-capo at the 5th fret and you`re in standard. my two main questions were, whether regular strings would be long enough, and what do you put it in. I haven`t seen any case for it. Ya, the length gives it a feel like a banjo or shamisen, like the fretboard is narrower than it actually is. Definitely at the head of my `next guitar` list. One thing is, if anything happens to it-cost of replacement plus airfare. One thing about a lot of Japanese companies is, they are indifferent about expanding. I could see a demand for these, but they don`t even have a website.
  25. Not a baritone. I absolutely loved playing this guitar. They are not cheap, otherwise I would very likely have one. Wait a minute, what am I saying-what I`m trying to say is, it uses the same strings as a regular guitar. But it`s not in standard tuning because of the extra frets. The lowest note on the low string is a B.
