  1. Miles, I traded in my Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 and got a Hot Rod Deluxe to save my back (but am still wondering if I won't kick myself later). Now I need to do some work on it to get it up to par. How do you think the KT66HP's would do in this amp? I like a tighter bass and crisp highs. I am also considering putting a 12AX7XC in V1 and possibly changing the speaker to a Celestion Vintage 30 or possibly a Jensen P12N. If you could give me some hints on all those things I would be grateful. Thank you.
  2. Hi Miles, It is time for me to retube my Fender DeVille and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. At present, I have Svetlana 6L6GC which I have been OK but one died after only about 4 months of only moderate playing. How do Groove Tubes rate compared to the Svetlana's? I want something that I can find relatively easy. I play mostly rock, blues, and some alternative country. I also would like to get this amp to overdrive a little easier as it is powerful and I really don't turn it up past 3 or 4, which doesn't get me there. I prefer the bright tone of a blackface and have 7024 ( I think) in V1. Also, have you had the chance to check out the Reverend Hellound 40/60? I am actually considering getting one because the DeVille is so heavy. Hey, thanks for all your help. You deserve some sort of medal or something.
  3. Miles, The amp I have is the Fender DeVille 410. As I stated, I have 7025's in V1 and V2 and a 12AX7 in V3. Should I put a 12AT7 in V3? I kind of like the brightness of it but would also like to sweeten up the distortion channel on this amp as it is a little harsh sounding for my taste. How would a 12AX7C do in this amp in V1? And if I do change it should I change V2? I'm not really sure what you meant about "draining the caps" and that may go beyond my neophytic knowledge of amps. Thanks for your help. Mike
  4. Miles, It appears that the problem was/is in the power tube section. Although the tubes are seated well there seems to be some shorting sound when they are moved just a little. Not sure what to do about that. Right now it is OK but I definitely don't want to keep fiddling with the power tubes while playing. While I've got your attention. Do you think that 7025's in V1 and V2 and a 12AX7 in V3 are good choices for this amp. Would I be better served by a 12AT7 in V3? Thanks for all your help. It's nice to know that there are people out there that are genuinely interested in helping others with their expertise pro bono.
  5. Miles, I've got a Fender Hot Rod DeVille that is acting weird. The amp has a static crackle only when playing certain chords or notes. specifically an A chord. Sounds strange huh? I don't really see any loose wires and the tubes seem pretty good to me although I am not an expert. The power tubes are relatively new. My guitar is fairly new too and I don't think that's the problem. Sounds kind of like a short or something but strange it only does it when I play in certain postions on the fretboard, Any suggestions? Thanks!
