  1. Keeping on.... JIM YESTER(Association) is 78 today... Ex Beatles drummer PETE BEST is 76... ROBIN WILLIAMSON (The Incredible String Band) is 74 And not a guitar player, but a good rock act, LEE MICHAELS is 72... And TONY ROMBOLA of Godsmack is 53. Whitefang
  2. Today it's JESSE COLIN YOUNG(Youngbloods) who's 76, and STEVE VAN ZANDT("Little Steven") who's 67 this morning. I wish them both the best. Whitefang
  3. Shoulda known it wasn't intentional. But now, though not a guitar player, many of us in here love 'im, JOHN REBENNACK, known to all as DR. JOHN, is 77 today. Have a happy birthday in the "right place", Doc! Anyway, I seem to recall seeing this at a later date than recorded on PBS. Two greats! [video:youtube]https://youtu.be/gY_dmkPhWMo Whitefang
  4. OK, fairly good line-up today---- Forum favorite and guitar player par excellence JOE WALSH is 70 today. And I wish him a good 'un DICK SMOTHERS, who Mom always liked best reaches 79--- FRANK MARINO, is 63--- NORMAN GREENBAUM of "Spirit In The Sky" fame is 75--- And mentioned "Forgotten guitarist" GARY GREEN of Gentle Giant turns 61. And had he lived, DUANE ALLMAN would be 71 today. Wishing them ALL a happy! Whitefang
  5. And let's now add a "Happy Birthday" to GRAHAM PARKER who reaches 67 today. Oh, and Metallica's KIRK HAMMETT is 55 today too. Whitefang
  6. Thanks in part to the "forgotten guitarists" thread, I came up with one(others might think of more) band I facetiously call--- THE LEFTOVERS STEVE PERRY--vocals MICK ABRAHAMS--lead guitar STEVE HACKETT--rhythm guitar JOHN LOCKE--keys CAS CHANDLER--bass PETE BEST--drums Whitefang
  7. Mentioned briefly in "forgotten guitarists", today is the 71st birthday of long time Jethro Tull guitarist MARTIN BARRE. It's also birthday 51 for JEFF BUCKLEY, Tim's equally talented son. Whitefang
  8. Good thought, JuJu. If we dig deep into rock history, we can come up with a lot of good bands..... NOKIE EDWARDS--guitar(lead) GENE VINCENT--rhythm guitar, vocals JERRY LEE LEWIS--keys, vocals SANDY NELSON--drums A bit more "modern"--- DAVID CLAYTON-THOMAS--vocals TERRY KATH--guitar DREW ABBOTT--rhythm guitar JERRY CORBETTA--keys, vocals SKIP PROKOP--drums Whitefang
  9. Although the whole idea is "fantasy" line-ups, and there's no need or purpose in "critiquing" anyone's choices, I'll only say that so far i've found no reason to "eyeroll" any of the choices. It's just too bad there's not going to be any CDs of any of them coming our way.... Whitefang
  10. CRIPES!( or, should that be "CRIKEY"? ) I kinda figured what you were meaning JuJu, but I was just havin' a bit of fun pokin' your ribs. Thought that "wink" emoticon would have made that plain. Let's not get all "facebook" in here..... And "mixing" artists from differing genres is OK. It's "fantasy", remember.... I've done that too, in a couple of mine. Whitefang
  11. Keeping it going.... Today marks former "Tonight" show band leader and guitarist supreme KEVIN EUBANKS' 60th birthday. So I thought I'd find something to familiarize us more with his skill.... [video:youtube] Have a good one today, Kevin! Whitefang
  12. I didn't know there was a specific genre of music known as "Australian"! Whitefang
  13. You wanna lotta notes? YNGWIE MALMSTEEN--guitar MATTHEW GARRISON--bass GEORGE DUKE--keys BILLY COBHAM--drums Whitefang
  14. I've also mentioned in "Forgotten guitarists" that today is the birthdays of... JOHN HAMMOND--75 ROGER STEEN--68 (and was a TUBES co-founder) TERRY REID--also 68 and followed by... ALDO NOVA--just 61. And will mention that many don't and didn't know Nova IS a guitar player. Some just know him from that cheezy Mtv video from the '80's. Whitefang
  15. I don't understand the reaction. Weinberg is an excellent drummer. And as for "fantasy" bands, you can pick who you wish. It doesn't matter. Whitefang
  16. I thought a good "Fusion" band would be a mix of some players gathered from several different ones from it's "heyday". AL Di MEOLA--guitar JACO PASTORIUS--bass Jan Hammer--keys Dave Liebman--reeds Tommy Campbell--drums or.... Pat Metheny--guitar Eberhard Weber--bass Otmaro Ruiz--keys Charlie Mariano--reeds Michael Walden--drums Whitefang
  17. Nobody else had any ideas? Or notions of a "dream team" of sorts? maybe---- STEVE TYLER--vocals RITCHIE BLACKMORE--guitar RIC GRECH--bass CARL PALMER--drums Whitefang
  18. If you're referring to the decade from , say, '67-'77, it doesn't offend ME, I might even say I agree. Of course, there's always a bit of "bleeding" from one decade to another. Or, a "cusp" if you will.... Whitefang
  19. EEeeewwww That's weird. But life goes on.... Particularly for BONNIE RAITT, who's 68 today, and Joni Mitchell wannabe RICKIE LEE JONES, who hits 63. Some might recall that Jones, in her debut on SNL, was looking like Joni from the cover of the "Hejira" LP. Beret and all. Whitefang (who will be more careful on his wording from now on )
  20. True. And notice..... Our esteemed and clearly talented Newbie did find something positive to do with it. Whitefang
  21. Well, remember.... There was some agreement to include acknowledging the birthdays of those who have passed on too. Note too, that I also mentioned Ike Turner's birthday. Whitefang
  22. I always liked that DEVO vid because my GRANDMA used to have LAMPSHADES like those hats they wear in it. We could debate "pop" music(again!) till the cows come home and still settle nothing. It is after all, subjective and a matter of personal likes and dislikes. And the diversity of ages and tastes in this forum means any concensus on the topic will be hard to come by. Whitefang
  23. Nice tone on that axe at any rate. But concerning your initial question..... For me it depends. I'm not a performer, so I at least am spared the dilemma of having to make any choice between several songs I can't possibly like, or more that I do. But as a listener, I'd have to say that IMHO, there's little to like in what's being offered these days. But who knows...by the 2020's, it might swing in a different direction and I'll like most of what I hear. At my age I went through a few periods like that. ie: liked the '60's and most of the '70's, found the '80's fairly vapid, but the '90's were good and etc., etc. And of course, it depends too on the genre. And regardless, I take it all song-by-song, but if we're generalizing...... Whitefang
  24. And they keep on comin'.....let's hope, anyway.... JOHNNY RIVERS is 75 today, and my gal JONI MITCHELL is 74. Happy birthday to a couple of people I've liked from first note I heard from them to now. Whitefang
