  1. I can't recall if you mentioned it, but using a GPS watch is quite helpful. It tracks your distance and pace with some other stats. I find it useful when running in new territory to keep track of how far I've gone and I definitely like it during races to regulate my pace each mile. I started out with a really cheap one several years ago and eventually updated to a recent Garmin. Great tools for runners.
  2. Running is great! I'm not as well trained or fit as I was for my first half marathon in 2012, but woke up at the crack of dawn 4:00 am today to travel 1.5 hrs to run a historic half with my 8-man running team. It was great! Congrats, Justin! Stick with it!
  3. Wow Dave, that is awesome that you're doing 25 miles per week! Very inspiring! I average about 15-20, but more in the months prior to a big race. I did my second half marathon in November and I'm doing a bunch of different individual and team runs/obstacle course things in 2014. My main goal this year is to keep it going post the half marathon. Last year, I had some knee issues and took some months off in early 2013, which was not good. I've been pretty consistent since August and I've definitely kept myself going a lot better after the big race compared with last year when I became sedentary essentially between Thanksgiving, Christmas and NAMM. Keep it up!
  4. Hey guys, I have not scanned to see my last post, but I recall several contributions to this thread when I was training for my first half marathon a year ago. That one went really well and I surprised myself. I too sustained an unknown knee injury earlier this year that led to ortho visits, xrays, meds, PT, etc. and it stopped me from productively running for about 3-4 months. AWFUL! I think all the rest and other treatments healed it and I've been able to get back on the running routine for the past 6 weeks, but I really lost a lot of my training stamina. I was consistently running 5 miles almost every day and it was a breeze to do it under 40 minutes without even thinking about it. Now that I'm getting back into running shape, I really have to push myself to hit 8 min miles and I had been more in the 7:30 range. I'm planning to do the half marathon again this November, but really doubtful I'll be able to match my time from last year. Injuries and falling out of the momentum of regular running are a bummer!
  5. Bypass in the Vent is a hardware modification done to the Vent itself. halfway down this page is an explanation of how the effect is achieved http://music.ashbysolutions.com/vent.htm#STEREO I don't know what pedal is out there that does this but, a stereo A/B split would work also as long as it's not your intent to be playing 2 different voices at the same time. I have the Ashby mods in my Vent, but originally done to work with my NE3 rig a few years back and maybe it would serve the same purpose on the VR-09. For the past 2-3 years, I've used a dedicated output from my NS2 to the Vent for organ and I run stereo L/R from the NS2 for the non-organ part. I had some special Y cables for the Vent and I would need to figure out how that may work for the VR-09. Or just go commando and use the VR-09 sans Vent.
  6. Thanks. Let me know how you patch in your Ventilator and it sounds like I may not be able to use mine. My Vent is mounted into an offstage rack with a custom snake and remote footswitch only for fast/slow and not bypass. I can't even remember how the Vent does bypass to be honest. It looks like I would just go with the VR-09 in stereo using the internal sim and skip the Vent if I don't have a way to assign the organ output to run through the Vent separate from the other sounds. Thanks!
  7. I would also like to get a better understanding of this one. My steady band tunes down -1 and I sometimes sit in with another band that does the same thing. Rather than relearning a million songs in a different key, I simply transpose -1 for the entire rig. I would hope the VR-09 can support this at some global utility level? If not, hopefully each saved registration (or whatever they are called) can be saved with custom transposition. Thanks!
  8. What is the recommended path for using the VR-09 with a Ventilator? I am not familiar enough with the specs to know if it has a "hard pan" type feature to route just the organ through a separate output or if some kind of toggle would be required to switch the organ/Vent vs. other keyboard sounds going straight to the mix? I know Craig has commented that he used it with a Vent, but I don't remember seeing the details on how to best leverage this on the gig. If I get a VR-09, I would intend on using it with a Vent and would love to be able to have an easy way to switch it between Vent organ and non-Vent synths/pianos. Not sure if both things can co-exist in a split or layer? Thanks, Eric
  9. This has been a good thread, despite perhaps a bit too much defensiveness from the polar spectrum of the haters vs. rabid fans (LOL). I've been lukewarm at best on the VR-09 after playing it and seeing demos at NAMM. However, I do see a niche fit for a board like this in my arsenal, very much like Craig's use as purely a backup or cheap date kind of gigs. I may be getting one for just this reason.
  10. You guys worried about slippage need to use velcro! I've been doing that for years and it will withstand any amount of bumpage or potential "fall off the stand" scenario. On the VR-09, I had a friend call me the other day as he is looking to replace his old Alesis QS6 that he's been using in a reggae/ska band for such a long time that it has become very worn out. He told me his budget and I know the sounds he needs, plus he is also a singer and horn player, so he does not play keys all night and is less particular about action (if he was and could afford it, I'd steer him to Hammond or Nord). I recommended the VR-09 to him and he is trying to find one. He heard from a couple of local places (Guitar Center, Sam Ash) that these are in high demand and heavily backordered. Is this really the case?
  11. This is absolutely the most entertaining thread ever on this forum!!!! It is soooo funny to see the fans protecting and the haters hating. I have seen it before, but I think this one tops all. The best part is that both perspectives from the "Hip Elite" haters to the "don't make fun of my new keyboard" fan boys provide the balance that is needed when folks are evaluating such a board. It would be a shame to silence either side of this polarizing dialogue.
  12. Wow what a thread. I'm still banking my $999, but thinking that maybe one of these posts might nudge me to spend it.
  13. This keyboard is almost as polarizing as a Nord!
  14. +10 Though I remain intrigued by this keyboard to be the occasional cheapskate ultra lite sub rig, I may do better by keeping that $999 in the bank and just slogging it out with generations of elder gear that gets the same end result.
  15. That sounds great! Very ballsy organ sound. I might pick up one of these as an easy jam beach party keyboard. I have this older Yamaha NP piano that fills that niche for me, so a VR09 would be a nice partner for it. This is a mega thread, for sure!
  16. I think that's a reasonable question. If you already have a Stage 2 compact, for example, I can't see the VR-09 being a worthwhile investment, but if you have a 55lbs board that you would like to move only when absolutely necessary, then maybe the VR will fill a gap. Also, sometimes it's just nice to be able to mix things up a little... I can see that angle and have mixed it up a bit in my rig, usually adding an extra piece from time to time. But the notion of learning an entirely new interface as the primary gig board seems counterintuitive, even if money is no object. Why not invest that time practicing and perfecting the show on one's main rig vs. the time required to integrate an occasional "convenience" board? All that said, if I find $999 burning a hole in my pocket, I would consider picking up a VR-09 just to have it.
  17. The main issue I would like to point out to anyone that has already invested in a gear footprint that approaches nirvana...why expend another $999 in lower gig quality gear that won't reasonably pay for itself in short order? Because you can? Ok, more power to ya.
  18. Methinks this thread is full of way too many expectations and words. It's a $999 keyboard, people! It will fill a niche for sure. Perfectionists and pros probably want to look at different options.
  19. Looks pretty darn cool.
  20. I'm proud to report that I completed my very first half marathon on November 10th with a time of 1:43. When I started training, I hoped to beat 2:00 and I was pleasantly surprised.
  21. This is pretty much my routine. I run about 5 miles a day 4-5x a week and I've cut out sweets and soda from my diet completely. This leaves room for adult beverages and I've been able to lose and maintain the weight loss for nearly a year. I run really early in the morning regardless of weather, hot or cold, unless it is pouring rain. I do a small amount of core and strengthening work, but not nearly enough. I plan to shift at least one day of cardio over to abs and weights to tone things better. Eric you never seemed like you had to loose a whole bunch of weight? Gee thanks, LOL. I'm not too much overweight, but I go through these awful spells when I digress and gain 15-20 lbs above my preferred target weight. I HATE LIFE when I am in that heavier zone. I have been maintaining the target weight for almost the past year and it is good. I aspire to shed about another 5-10 lbs and tone up my core, but so long as I can fit into my 32" waist pants and medium shirts, I'm a happy camper. When I gain the weight, I shift to more of a 34 or 36 waist and medium shirts look idiotic on me.
