  1. I've told this one before, but it is a good one. ... ... ... 1980's. We were playing the Moose Lodge in a rural dry county. Pretty much BYOB with bootlegging. It was a really big building. Big dance hall area, pool room for bootlegging, dining area, concession, bathrooms, etc... The dance hall was in the main back of the building. Anyway, the band had learned a new song, Jail Break by Thin Lizzy. We played it during the third set and I told the band "let me do an intro". I had enough synths on stage to fake three police sirens fading in from the distance. When the sirens got really loud the band came in. It was a great intro. During the song I noticed a large group of people standing at the entrance to the dance hall and the crowd kept getting bigger. I thought, wow, they must really like the song. Well, that was not exactly it. The guitarist's girlfriend was at the concession when I started the intro and witnessed people running out of the bathrooms, pulling up their pants and heading for their cars to get away before the police arrived. The pool room/bootleg area also emptied out. Once they got to the parking lot they realized that the sirens were coming from inside of the building. The crowd I saw gathering at the dance hall entrance were the people who had run out in panic, then came back inside to see the source of the sirens. I was politely asked by management not to do that again. 🤣

  2. I remember seeing the ads in Keyboard and a picture of the Odyssey on the Musicians Friend catalog. I really wanted one but ended up with the MiniMoog because it was available. In the late 70's you didn't have a lot of choices in a small rural town. Was very interested when this came out but reviews of the horrible touch pads scared me away. Wish it had more jacks for interfacing with the Behringer 2600. Still, maybe someday. Wonder how it compares to the Korg version?

  3. I watched the announcement, got on the Apple store to poke around, and then ordered ... ... ... the MacBookAir 15" M3 1TB. It was the $500 trade in for my M1 Air and 12 month no interest that sealed the deal. My M1 Air was powerful enough, but the small screen was driving me crazy.

As for todays announcements, I am most interested in Logic Pro 2. They gave no clue when it would hit the app store. The "new" magic keyboard and pen actually persuaded me not to consider the new iPad Pro. I have the M1 iPad Pro with a magic keyboard and pen. I don't want to have to update the accessories and they did not saw if the new iPad Pro was backward compatible with the keyboard or pen I currently own.

  4. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos comparing various systems and know a bit more about what to watch for in a mesh system, but it has been 10 years since I set one up, Currently I am on rural DSL so speeds are not that great. They finally made cable available in my area but they are having lots of problems so I will stick with DSL for now. My house is wired for ethernet in most rooms with a router in the garage. The DSL modem is in my garage. I have an Airport Extreem attached to it and an ethernet cable going from it to the router.

DSL modem -> Airport Extreme -> router for the wired connections

I have a smaller Airport in my living room connected by ethernet.  I like using wired connections rather than relays having to use wireless connections. The Extreme covers the man cave upstairs, the front porch and guest bedrooms. The small Airport covers the kitchen, dining living room and back porch. The master bedroom and bathroom have the weakest connections in the house and need an improvement. Thus, I am looking at a three box system.

I was leaning towards the Eero 6+ as all components have ethernet connections. I notice the 6 is limited to wireless relay only. I assume the ports on the 6+ boxes will allow them to transmit over the ethernet connections. I first considered the Eeros Pro 6E but watched a video that explains that most everything currently connects through 5 which the 6+ has two bands. On the Pro 6E one band is a 6 and will go mostly unused, causing more devices to compete for bandwidth on the single channel of 5.

So, if you read all of this, thanks. Any comments, suggestions, other recommendations? I know that Eero was purchased by Amazon and that will turn some people off. Another brand I considered was purchased by Google and I don’t feel any better about using them.

My point was if the OP was going to wait for a deeper discount than $49 he's going to miss out waiting for a maybe never price of $29. Good luck with that.

I missed out on the $29 deal. Bought it during the last sell for $49 minus I think thirty percent, which was the max discount they would allow with my IK bucks that I had collected over the years.

How practical this solution can be for you depends on the rest of your setup and how you are hoping to incorporate the Opsix into that setup.

    Two uses for this unit.

    1. Sequence with a Oxi One and record stems.

    2. Connect to a Hydrasynth Deluxe to make use of the poly aftertouch.

I have to agree with brother @Caevan O’Shite!

BTW, The Politics of Dancing is one of my favorite 80's tunes!

I was covering all the synth parts plus playing that feedback lead guitar part in the middle of the song. That was a fun song to play.

Wow! You played with a pair of real a$$h0l3$ there!

Yes, but karma is the real bitch. I stayed in the band after the manager forbid them from firing me. A year later they had a falling out. I offered to bring in a guitarist that I had played with. The female singer refused to even listen to him play because "he looks too country." That was the best thing to never happen to him. A few years later he moved to Nashville to start a 10 year run as lead for a major star. She eventually went to Nashville but could not evolve past background singer.

  8. I had a band give me a termination notice because I continued to do Adrain Belew inspired solos on my synth. The Rhodes Chroma could really pull it off. I can still hear the guitarist/singer saying "I get mad every time I look over and you have one hand on the pitch and mod wheels. I want both hands on the keys at all times!" And the female vocalist saying "Less of those space sound thingies. Just play notes." I never complied. It wasn't like I was doing it every song. It really fit in songs like Politics of Dancing or I Love It When You Call Me Names. They finally gave me notice that they were going to replace me because I would not play the way they wanted me to play. That sort of blew up in their faces and I was in that band until it eventually broke up.

  9. I started to get a Korg OpSix when they discontinued the model and put them on sale but they were gone before I managed to grab one. Then the OpSix Mk2 came out with double the polyphony. I decided that I want a OpSix M (tabletop) and wanted to make sure it was the Mk2 version. Looked at the Korg website and found a couple of clues, but no statement of which version the tabletop OpSix M is. What I did find is ...

    Original OpSix - 32 voice

    OpSix Mk2 - 64 voice

OpSix M information on a dealer website - 60 voice

OpSix M information on the Korg website - 80 voice

Then I noticed a video on the OpSix M page for the OpSix LE - 80 voice. 61 keys, and available in a platinum color. So that has left me a bit confused. It is a OpSix, OpSix Mk2, or OpSix LE in tabletop form? I did notice that is will accept poly aftertouch.

  10. I'm ready for this one. Ironically,  after the youtube clip finished the synth they never mentioned by name appeared as the first suggested video. 🤣

I just hope they can truly replicate the patches, including modulations and how sounds can transform when you hold a note.

Yamaha’s flagship has Poly AT, it leaves Roland’s a little behind on specs given its a ‘new’ board. As for Korg….

But only the 88 version. I would have gotten a Montage 6M to pair with my Fantom 7 if it was poly aftertouch. Instead I got the MODX+6 and the Hydrasynth Pro combination. I'm satisfied for now. I only need one keyboard with poly aftertouch. My Fantom 7 with the EX upgrade still resides as the anchor of my system and I am happy with it.

Reminds of when samplers came out, and a union guy said to me they were "going to put musicians out of business." To which my reply was "who do you think plays these things - accountants"?

All that energy to battle samplers, and they never thought about being replaced by full recordings.
